According to reports from Circana, the officialNintendo Switch 2camera accessory sold exceptionally poorly, with a “mid-single digit percentage” of customers buying it. Though theNintendo Switch 2and many of its optional accessories have been flying off the shelves, the $55 camera seems to have performed much worse.

It is no surprise that Nintendo’s latest console has been a huge hit. The Switch 2 has been called the “fastest-selling Nintendo game system ever,” withanalysts estimating 5.4 million Switch 2s sold in Junealone.

However, it seems like not every Switch 2 accessory has had as much financial success as the console itself. According to Circana’s U.S. gaming sales report for June, asreported by Game File, the $55 official Switch 2 camera was only purchased by a “mid-single digit percentage” of gamers who got the console. These low sales numbers are likely because the camera is not only optional – currently only used by GameChat and a handful of other functions – but unnecessary, as theSwitch 2 is compatible with third-party camerasas well.

$55 Nintendo Switch 2 Camera Accessory Didn’t Sell Well

To put these numbers into perspective,Circana reported 1.6 million devices sold in the United States in June, meaning approximately 80,000 cameras were purchased alongside their parent consoles. Even so, Circana gaming analyst Mat Piscatella said this was in line with his own expectations for the accessory. Though the number seems low, the camera would still add just under $5 million to the Nintendo Switch 2 launch gross earnings in the U.S. alone.

On the contrary, the $85 Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller has sold exceptionally well. Circana estimates 512,000 fans purchased this accessory during June in the United States alone – more than six times as many as the camera estimations above. Despite their high price point, approximately one in three Switch 2 customers are believed to have bought this optional accessory, making it a significant win for the company.

Nintendo’s own sales goals for the Switch 2 and its accessories are unknown. Even so, gamers won’t have to wait long to hear some official statistics from the gaming giant itself; global sales numbers for the Switch 2 are expected to go live on August 1.Nintendo even accidentally made its Switch 2 sales numbers publicon its website for a short time, proving it is preparing for the big reveal. Players will have to see how the Switch 2 holds up to other major console releases in history once these numbers are made available.
