While it may seem rather complicated at first glance, understanding structural support in7 Days To Dieis actually relatively straightforward. If a building isn’t rooted to the ground securely, it isn’t going to last very long. Should the player decide to build a base that doesn’t have a lot of support, then it may come tumbling down.

A good base can mean the difference betweensurviving a Blood Moonand becoming a midnight snack for a horde of hungry zombies. This guide will go through all there is to know about building structures that are sturdy, safe, and secure.

Fending Off Zombies In 7 Days To Die

3How Zombies Attack

Before understanding structural integrity, it’s important to understand how zombies operate. For the most part, zombies and enemy creatureswill take the path of least resistance to get to you. Basically, they would sooner try to break down a door than smash their way through a wall to attack you. However, if you are using steel doors and wooden walls, then the zombies will head for the walls as they are weaker.

If you decide to remove all access points, meaning that the zombies have no direct path to get to you, then they will start attacking the building around you to bring it down. During these situations, zombies will go to any areas that are weak. For example, if you have a tall base that is anchored to the ground in only one place, then all of the zombies will ground around the block that connects your base to the ground, and destroy it, bringing you and your base hurtling to the ground.

The Stability Of A Building In 7 Days To Die

To prevent this from happening, it’s important to do two things; build a structurally sound base, and always have a path that the zombies can use to reach you.

2How Structural Integrity Works

If you look at a block in your inventory, you’ll see that it has a mass and a horizontal support. Take a wood cube, for example. It has a mass of 5 and a horizontal support of 40. If you want to place some wood cubes on the side of a wood tower, then to work out how many blocks you may place, youdivide the horizontal support number by the block’s mass. For the wood cube, this would be 8. This means that you can build up to 8 blocks horizontally from a wood cube.

With each block you place, the support will weaken slightly. If you are on PC and you don’t mind losing out on collecting trophies, you can activate developer mode by pressing F1 and typing the command “DM”. This will allow you to pause the game and activate the Show Stability. This will show you how structurally sound a building is. Any block that is displayed as green is very sturdy. Then, as a structure loses some of its support, the block color will gradually turn yellow/orange before finally turning red.

If you exceed a block’s maximum support threshold, then that part of the structure will fall down. To prevent a base collapse, it’s important to make sure that you build plenty of support pillars to keep your base upright. Ideally, you’ll want to construct a base that can remain standing even if one of the support pillars is destroyed. The more blocks you have anchored to the ground, the more structurally sound your building becomes.See the video below for an example of how structural support works in7 Days To Die:

1Upgrading Blocks

When it comes to upgrading blocks, you should always upgrade any blocks that are connected to the ground first. When you upgrade a block, it becomes heavier. So, if you upgrade a wood platform to cement, the cement floor will be considerably heavier than the wood floor.

You may have a structurally sound wooden base, but if you decide to upgrade the upper levels of your base first, then the base will eventually collapse under the pressure.
