EA is currently hard at work developing a new entry inThe Simsfranchise, though, unfortunately for many, it’s notThe Sims 5. It’s been quite a while since players saw a brand-new core entry in the smash-hit life sim franchise, and althoughThe Sims 4remains plenty popular, the wait has been long, and many fans are eager to see a new game.
While there are plenty of different life-sim games out there—each with its own style and gameplay, catering to fans’ various preferences—The Simsfranchise is arguably the most iconic of all. Maybe because it’s been around for so long, or maybe because its engaging gameplay has stayed relevant over the years—either way, players keep coming back, especially to the latest entry (released in 2014),The Sims 4. In 2025,The Simsfranchise hit 25 years in the industry, and players were treated to all kinds of activities, as well as the release ofThe SimsandThe Sims 2 Legacy Collectionsfor modern PCs. In addition to remakes and DLCs for existing titles, EA is currently working on a project for a new game, though it may not be what fans were expecting to see.
Although fans had already learned thatEA’s next game wasn’tThe Sims 5, there was still some hope that the studio had plans to develop it. But in a recentinterview with Variety, EA Entertainment president Laura Miele shut down those hopes, saying the studio is “hard at work and feverishly developing” a multiplayer spin-off ofThe Sims.
The Sims Franchise Is Getting a Multiplayer Spin-Off
The reason for not developingThe Sims 5yet is that EA doesn’t want players to have to give up everything they’ve bought and built inThe Sims 4, as “that is not player-friendly.” It’s worth keeping in mind the large number ofcontent expansions EA has released forThe Sims 4over the last 10 years. Miele also explained that this new multiplayer platform in development will come alongside an overhaul of the “base technology and the base user experience on the core game.”
Miele kept most details under wraps but teased great things coming forThe Simsfans in the spin-off, even confirming that whatever the new project is, it’ll have a mobile version. While some fans may be disappointed that EA is not bringing anew coreSimsgame, the developer assures fans that the upcoming projects aim to create an “ecosystem” and a “universe of multipleSimsexperiences.”
