Summary

Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation ofGod of Warhas been in the works for a while now, so for those wondering what is happening with the development process of the TV series, the show’s showrunner has provided an exciting update that is sure to please fans of Santa Monica Studio’s PlayStation hit. So far, Amazon has already ordered another season of theGod of WarTV series before the first one is even released, but that’s not the end of its encouraging news.

Announced in late 2022, theplanned adaptation ofGod of Warlooked like it could have been on shaky ground when several scripts for the first season were written before Sony and Amazon decided to move in a different creative direction. Thankfully, soon after this, the series found its new showrunner inStar Trekcreator Ronald D. Moore, to the relief of the game’s huge fandom, who wanted nothing more than to see the epic mythology franchise brought to the small screen. Now, it looks like the adaptation, which wasinitially created by David Jaffe, is heading in the right direction as Moore gives a very positive update regarding the future of the Amazon Prime series.

God of War’s Scripts for TV Series Are Currently Being Worked on With Cory Barlog

As reported byScreen Rant, who attended San Diego Comic-Con 2025,God of War’s showrunner, Ronald D. Moore, revealed that he is now working on the scripts for the series alongside Cory Barlog. Even though Moore admits that he hasn’t developed a video game adaptation before, stating that he “didn’t really know exactly what I was going to be facing,” he says that he is having a lot of fun developing the popular PlayStation game.

Well, I can’t get really into the creative, but I can tell you now, we’re working on the scripts right now, and this is just an amazing property. It’s a deep mythology. It’s a lot of interconnected pieces. I’ve gotten to know Corey Barlog, who is the creative director of the games, and he’s a remarkable person, and he just knows the mythology backwards and forwards and just keeps it all in his head. You can ask him a question, [like], “Tell me about why Kratos did this,” and then an hour will go by because he just knows it cold. So, I’ve been really impressed by just digging into something that is as well-thought-out and rich as this environment is. I’ve never done a video game adaptation, so I didn’t really know exactly what I was going to be facing, but it’s really been fun. I can tell you that.

Although not a massive development update, as an adaptation of this scale is sure to take some time, it’s certainly a very exciting insight into the process of what stage the highly anticipated series is currently in. As well as that, fans will appreciate that Moore is working closely with Cory Barlog to make sure the adaptation is as faithful as possible to the games, especially since Moore isn’t familiar with the source material.

Moore had previously expressed that even though he would “have a stab” atplaying theGod of Wargames, he’s not a gamer due to growing up in the arcade era of the 1980s and can only really “bang on buttons.” Moore joked that he had issues with the controllers of today and isn’t too sure about what button does what, leaving him usually dying in the game because he takes so long to figure it all out. “The controllers now… Press R1, which one’s R1, oh I’m dead! I can’t quite get a hold of that,” Moore revealed.

Currently, nothing more is known about Amazon’sGod of WarTV series as yet, but fingers crossed that we’ll hear about casting announcements and even more prominent updates soon.
