Summary
Arnold Schwarzenegger’sPredatorwas one of the biggest hits of 1987, but the famous actor has never returned to the franchise for more sci-fi goodness. Until now, that is.
There was no bigger star thanArnold Schwarzeneggerin the 1980s and early 1990s (apologies to Sylvester Stallone). Just look at his resume, and you’ll see that the man was simply a hit machine:The Terminator,Conan,Total Recall,True Lies,Twins,Kindergarten Cop,and, of course,Predator. Sure, there were a few duds in there, films likeRed HeatandRaw Deal, but all in all, Schwarzenegger was picking solid projects and making a ton of money. This makes it all the more odd that he didn’t carry on with thePredatorfranchise. He has never been averse to sequels, as theTerminator,Conan, andExpendablesfranchises prove. For whatever reason, Arnold Schwarzenegger never felt it was necessary to return to the role of Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer. Well, that has changed.
At the San Diego Comic-Con on Friday afternoon,Predatorfranchise creative lead Dan Trachtenbergannounced that a new version of the animated filmPredator: Killer of Killerswas set to hit Hulu in just a few hours, meaning you can load up the streaming service and check it out right now. Why would you want to watch a new cut ofPredator: Killer of Killers? Because both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Glover, two beloved actors who haven’t touched the franchise in decades, have returned to the fold for a brand new epilogue. Now, the two don’t have any speaking lines, but they had to give Trachtenberg their blessing to use their likenesses for the animated film, which certainly isn’t nothing.
Arnold Schwarzenegger And Danny Glover Have Returned To ThePredatorFranchise
Should They Bring Adrien Brody Back Too?
So, why is this such a big deal? Because Dan Trachtenbergclearlyhas a plan in place for thePredatorfranchise, and he is executing it masterfully. No one was expecting much from 2022’sPrey, thePredatorprequel that Trachtenberg directed for Hulu. After all, 2018’sThe Predatorwas a critical and commercial disaster that seemingly put the franchise on ice. ButPreywas released to an astonishing critical reception and greater-than-expected viewership numbers for Hulu. The release ofPreywent over so well, Trachtenberg was able to get two more films made off the back of its success:Predator: Killer of Killersand the upcomingPredator: Badlands.
Adding this (admittedly short) epilogue update toKiller of Killersties the first two films in the franchise with the newer films, giving the franchise the weight it deserves. The first threePredatorfilms are highly regarded in sci-fi/action circles and, if you ignore the abysmalAlien vs. Predatorfilms, then 2018’sThe Predatoris the only genuinely lackluster movie in the entirePredatorfranchise. Imagine if other classic sci-fi series likeAlienandThe Terminatorcould say that.
