Overwatch 2has officially scheduled the Wuyang hero trial from August 14 through August 18. Players will be able to play the next support hero inOverwatch 2more than a week ahead of his official release in Season 18.
During the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event,Blizzard revealed two of the three heroes coming in 2025: Freja, the frosty bounty hunter DPS, and Wuyang, a watery support hero with the codename “Aqua.” Freja was released in Season 16 on April 22, with Wuyang planned to arrive in Season 18 on August 26.
However, fans will be able to get their hands on Wuyang a little earlier than that. During theannouncement blogfor theOverwatch 2mid-Season 17 update, Blizzard confirmed August 14 through August 18 would be the trial period for Wuyang, giving all players the chance to try the hero in casual game modes like Quick Play ahead of his official release. This also means fans can expect to see Wuyang’s full kit before then, likely on or around August 11, if not earlier.
When is the Wuyang Hero Trial in Overwatch 2?
While his full suite of abilities is not yet known,Overwatch 2gave a few more clues as to how the hero will play. According to the blog post, Wuyang is “all about rhythm, disruption, and flow-based control,” with “fluid healing, hybrid damage utility, and graceful mobility.” It was also said that the hero has a high learning curve, and a primary fire that is supposedly unlike anything seen in similar games. Like Freja earlier this year, it sounds like Wuyang will be a difficult character to master.
Blizzard also teased a little bit of Wuyang’s backstory in this announcement as well. The support hero evidently attends Wuxing University’s Water College, and is known for being a bit of a rebel. Given the similar elements between him and fellow Chinese scholarMei inOverwatch 2, and eco-renegade support hero Lifeweaver, it is possible Wuyang’s story may cross paths with these characters. Either way, players can expect to learn more about his history around the same time as his full reveal, and if fans are lucky, he will get a new short story or even an animated short.
Once Wuyang arrives, only one more hero will be scheduled to be released in 2025. Though this character is currently shrouded in mystery, some clues suggestOverwatch 2’s Hero 45 may be a female gladiator characterof some kind, likely with a heavy focus on melee combat. This hero is expected to arrive in Season 20 in late December, so gamers probably won’t see much about them for several more months.
