As spotted byTheGamer, a recent Reddit thread by user Knork14 has expressed a desire for players to be able to tell theirBaldur’s Gate 3companionswhen they’re lying to their enemies. As it stands, the game’s companions take the player’s word at face value when speaking to other NPCs, with no way to explain themselves later to avoid any loss of approval. Knork14 claims that “I feel like I should be able to lie to an enemy’s face without my companions assuming the worst of me.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Want To Be Able To Explain Their Lying to Companions

Another comment points out that “the 200 hours of me being a do-gooder before this interaction” means nothing to companions, with this context not considered at all. This goes for sarcastic interactions, too, with players pointing out various interactions where players can be punished for choosing to play along for the sake of the conversation. Given the alreadybranching dialogue trees inBaldur’s Gate 3, it makes sense why this isn’t possible in the game, given the extra workload it would have added. Perhaps it’s somethingBaldur’s Gate 3modders can work on in the future.
