Summary

Battlefield 2042is due to receive a new update next week that aims at fixing a handful of small issues to do with the game’s customization menus, among other things. The final season ofBattlefield 2042, Season 7: Turning Point, came to an end earlier this year. Despite the game no longer being supported with new seasons, developer DICE is continuing to updateBattlefield 2042as it works toward the next game in EA’s popular multiplayer shooter franchise.

It’s been somewhat of a rollercoaster forBattlefieldfans as of late. WithBattlefield 2042winding down, EA recently announced thatthree Xbox 360/PlayStation 3-eraBattlefieldgames have been taken offlinepermanently. Fans will no longer have access toBattlefield 3, Battlefield 4,orBattlefield Hardline’s online multiplayer on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, but the Xbox One and PS4 versions ofBF4andHardlinewill remain online for the time being. Countering this sour news is recent word from Vince Zampella, who confirmed the nextBattlefield’s modern day setting. The new title is also rumored to be arriving sometime in 2025.

EA DICE is rolling out anew update forBattlefield 2042sometime next week. Update 8.2.1 offers a small list of quality of life fixes that include an issue that rewards “Return to Sender” XP to players who pick up and throw their own grenades from the ground. The RPT-31 light machine gun is one of only twoBattlefield 2042weaponsto appear in the update notes. DICE fixed a problem that made muzzle attachments visible when aiming down long scopes with the weapon. The M1 Garand is the other, as its bugged magazine attachment icon has been mended.

A number of tweaks toBattlefield 2042’s customization menusare present in this update as well. An inaccurate “this uniform is part of a set” message that would pop up while customizing specialists has been fixed. The menus for weapon skins and charms have been made less confusing, and DICE added a keybind for PC players who wish to opt out of matchmaking from the game’s home screen. Seeing thatBattlefield 2042is three years old, there isn’t much left to fix at this point, so it makes sense for these post-seasonal updates to be much smaller as DICE winds down support.

Battlefield 2042 2

Battlefield 2042may see several more small updates in the coming months before DICE moves away from supporting it entirely. As forthe nextBattlefieldgame, with rumors swirling of a 2025 launch, perhaps a reveal from EA at the upcoming 2024 Game Awards could be in the cards. Its focus on a modern day setting would be more in-line withBattlefield 3and4,which may lead to a swarm of hype surrounding its full official reveal.
