Summary
Dragon Age: The Veilguardsaw the return of healing magic for the player’s companions, though it isn’t just the Mages that can support Rook in this way. Each companion inDragon Age: The Veilguardhas some sort of support ability, with both the Rogues and Mages being able to heal the player, while Taash can make Rook Invulnerable, and Davrin can taunt enemies away from the player.
However, not every healing skill is created equally, with some characters being much better suited for having a healing ability as one of their three active abilities than others. These are some of thebest skills within these healing abilitiesthat players should aim for if they want their companions to be able to support them duringVeilguard’s combat, instead of only relying on the potions they have equipped.
8Extra Elfroot
Harding
Players are able to choose between two different pathways with many of the companion abilities. This includes healing, where characters like Harding can either give the player a boost to their health at the start of using replenish or at the end, very early in investing points in healing.
The Extra Elfroot ability upgrade means that once the effects of the Soothing Potion have ended, the player will receive one final heal that is 300% more than the usual amount. This gradual healing meansplayers can keep fighting enemieswithout the worry of losing too much health, as the majority of what is lost will be replenished at the end.
7Surge Of Life
Emmrich
Emmrich may be a Necromancer, but he is still another great healer for any player’s team. Surge of Life is one of the best ability upgrades available to Emmrich due to it not only allowing Replenish to heal the player, but it also gives them 25 Mana to use.
Mana is what the player activities their own abilities with, so using this in a pinch can be great. However, unlike healing abilities inDragon Age: The Veilguard, Surge of Life only works while in combat. Otherwise, the player will not receive the Mana boost.
6Potent Balm
Lucanis
Alternatively, Lucanis is the other Rogue of the team that can heal Rook when the going gets tough. Although Potent Balm is unlocked nearer the end of this tree of skills to do with the Soothing Potion ability, Potent Balm gives players a quick boost of healing as soon as it is pressed.
Like Harding Extra Elfroot, Potent Balm does 300% more healing, but instead of being used at the end of the ability, it is at the start. This makes it the perfect ability upgrade for those that tend to need to heal in a rush after a lethal blow has left them near death. Harding does also have this ability upgrade, which she can use much earlier. However, Lucanis has other skills within this tree that make his healing far more worthwhile.
5Watch Your Back
Neve
Neve and Lucanis are two companions inDragon Age: The Veilguardthat can get to a point where the player can no longer choose healing abilities from them. However, if a player has managed to avoid this fate with Neve, they should quickly consider purchasing the greater passive available, known as Watch Your Back.
Whenusing Replenish on Neve, the player won’t only be healed, but they will also become resistant to damage. Therefore, a player will take a reduced amount of damage from the foes they are facing, which will make the healing from Neve far more worthwhile for those who struggle to get out the way of hits.
4Pillar Of Health
Bellara
While Neve may reduce the amount of damage a player takes when replenishing, Bellara grants players the advantage of Immovable. While this doesn’t reduce the damage the user takes, it does stop enemies from interrupting the player during their combat, due to it preventing both physical reactions and interruptions.
By acquiring the greater passive of Pillar of Health, a player can thankfully complete their combos of attacks without the worry of the opponent hitting them and forcing them to start the combo all over again. Although this only works while being healed, it’s still a great passive to consider.
3Vigor Mortis
One of the greatest companions inDragon Age: The Veilguardreturns as Emmrich proves himself to be one ofthe best healing mages in the game. Vigor Mortis is another greater passive, like the two previously mentioned, but this one grants the player Immunity.
Therefore, it doesn’t just reduce the amount of damage; it completely prevents the player from taking any damage at all while they are healing. This means heals like Harding’s or Lucanis' are no longer needed, as the player will heal without a hitch due to being immune to any damage while fighting. However, a player must remember that the advantage will end eventually.
2Antivan Coffee
Although it seems like Emmrich completely ruins the reason to have a Rogue as a healer, Lucanis proves that there is more to the Soothing Potion ability than healing the player. Greater passives like Antivan Coffee allow the player to increase the amount of damage they do to their opponents while also giving them the health they require.
Antivan Coffee grants the player Shocking Weapons. This advantagecoats the player’s weapons with lightning, which not only grants additional damage to enemies but also puts the shock status on them, too.
1Contingency
By far one of the greatest companion skills inDragon Age: The Veilguardis the Contingency ability upgrade that is available for Bellara. By purchasing this upgrade, Bellara will automatically use the Replenish ability when the player’s health starts to get too low.
This not only gives the player less to worry about, but it also doesn’t cause thecooldown for Bellara’s other abilitiesto occur. As long as the player doesn’t have Bellara on cooldown, she will happily heal them during intense situations to limit the number of potions Rook will use during a battle.
