Summary

One of the most fascinating aspects ofKohei Horikoshi’sMy Hero Academiais howalmost everybody in this world is destined to get superhuman abilities, known as Quirks. They’re not exclusive to the Pro Heroes and Villains who are constantly fighting against each other.

This has resulted in a great number of important figures who have greatly contributed to the plot ofMy Hero Academiain one way or another, even if they can’t engage in battle. From regular civilians, to brilliant inventors of support items, to even members of the police force, these are examples of some of the best characters in the series that never fight.

8Inko Midoriya

A Good Mom Trying Her Best In A Harsh World

Every good hero’s story must begin somewhere. In the case of protagonist Izuku Midoriya, it all began with his mother:Inko Midoriya. When they both found out that Izuku didn’t have a quirk, Inko sadly had to tell him that he couldn’t be a hero. Of course, she was later proven wrong, but she can’t be blamed. Shefell victim to an unbalanced society that made everyone think that quirkless people couldn’t be heroes.

When Izuku later earned the One For All quirk from All Might, Inko was super supportive of her son, to the point that she went out of her way to watch him on TV whenever she could. She was even brave enough to stand up to All Might himself to make sure that he would always take good care of her son. At the end of the day, Izuku wouldn’t be the great hero he is now if it wasn’t for his amazing mom.

7Nezu

The Honorable Principal Of U.A. High School

Nezuis a unique character inMy Hero Academia, because he’s the only known case of an animal with a quirk that lets him live like any other human. Fortunately, he uses his intelligence for good. He eventually became the principal of U.A. High School, the most prestigious hero academy in all of Japan.

Principal Nezu never gets involved in fights against villains, but he doesn’t need to. He’s in charge of raising and teaching all the young minds who will someday become Japan’s biggest heroes, which is already a monumental task. And if that wasn’t enough, he also showed great resolve and consideration when he turned U.A. High School into a safe haven for helpless civilians after the Paranormal Liberation War.

6Naomasa Tsukauchi

All Might’s Reliable Detective Friend

Despite the existence of Pro Heroes, the police force is still a key part of Japan’s society. One of its members,Naomasa Tsukauchi,is an essential figure in the plot of the series. He is one of the most underrated and forgottenMy Hero Academiacharacters, which is a shame, because he has made great contributions to the overarching fight against All For One.

Tsukauchi is not just any regular detective. He’s also one of All Might’s most reliable friends and allies and has been working with him for many years, which was shown in the spin-off,My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. He did have a more bland design at the beginning of the series, but it’s evident that the battle against All For One took a toll on him. Nevertheless, the heroes would never have been able to defeat the Symbol of Evil if not for Tsukauchi’s clever leadership and organization.

Mei refuses to take a bath.

5Mei Hatsume

A Brilliant Inventor Of Groundbreaking Support Items For Heroes

Throughout the series, it is made clear how important support items can be for the heroes, since they can help control or even enhance their superhuman abilities. While there are many skilled engineers inMy Hero Academia, the most memorable isMei Hatsume, from the Department of Support in Class 1-H.

Mei may be a little obsessed with her inventions(which she calls “babies”), but it’s evident that she has a lot of passion for inventing and creating practical and powerful support items. She and her inventions were extremely helpful to Deku and other aspiring heroes. Not to mention that her over-the-top, assertive personality also made her a hilarious character that has become very popular among fans.

Fuyumi acknowledges the problems in her family.

4Fuyumi Todoroki

Another Unfortunate Victim Of Endeavor’s Obsession

The intense conflict between the Todoroki familyhas had a huge impact on its super-powered members, like Endeavor, Shoto and Dabi. But what about the others, especially those who aren’t heroes or villains? Shoto’s sister,Fuyumi Todoroki, is a solid but unfortunate example of how Endeavor’s actions affected the more regular side of the family.

While her brother Natsuo always attempted to distance himself from their father, Fuyumi tried her best to help everyone get along, even if it was almost impossible. This makes her into a heartbreaking tragic character, who always sought the family she could never have. Despite her unfortunate situation, Fuyumi is still a kind soul who helped her family as much as she could.

Eri smiles during Class 1-A’s concert.

3Eri

A Hopeful Girl With A Helpful Quirk

There’s no denying thatEriis one of the most tragic figures inMy Hero Academia.Born with a powerful Rewind quirk, she was exploited by Kai Chisaki of the Shie Hassaikai for most of her life, until Izuku Midoriya, Mirio Togata and other Pro Heroes rescued her.

Despite her dark upbringing, Eri managed to become the cheerful and lighthearted kid she should have always been, mainly due to the physical and psychological aid of the many members of U.A. High School. Seeing as she is very young, Eri never got involved in fights by herself, but she did assist Izuku Midoriya with her quirk on two different occasions. Thanks to her, he managed to come out victorious in his battles against Overhaul and All For One.

Rody Soul asks the bartender for a job.

2Rody Soul

A Charismatic Boy With A Unique Quirk

Even though he was created for the third feature film,World Heroes' Mission,Rody Soulquickly became one of the most popular characters in the entireMy Hero Academiafranchise, to the point that he was ranked ninth in the manga’s seventh Popularity Poll. All this can be chalked up to one major reason: his charming personality. Rody is a carefree, charismatic, and bold young man who cares a lot for his younger siblings, not to mention that he had some solid chemistry with Deku.

Despite his design and personality, he is not really a fighter. However, he does have some incredible acrobatic skills and big dreams of becoming a pilot, which is quite different from most other characters in the series. His quirk, which allows him to manifest a small bird named Pino that reflects his inner feelings, is both amusing and adorable, and it adds a lot to Rody’s appeal.

Ordinary Woman and Kota run to comfort Deku.

1Ordinary Woman

An Example Of The Discrimination Suffered By Heteromorphs

The unjust discrimination ofpeople with Mutant-Type quirks (also known as Heteromorphs)is an intriguing plot point that Kohei Horikoshi brought up rather late in the series. He did it by introducing a memorable character whose name is literallyOrdinary Woman,to reflect how harsh these prejudices can be.

Ordinary Woman has a creative design that helps her stand out, but her story is what made her into a likable character. Deku saved her from a bunch of armed civilians who mistook her for a villain, in one of the most adorable and inspiring scenes in the entire series. In turn, she helped Deku out when he had an emotional breakdown after he was brought back to U.A. High School, proving that his actions did influence and move the people that he helped.
