Summary
When starting an RPG, players are likely to choose froman assortment of classesor be given the freedom during their playthrough to build their character into a certain direction. Many games give players a variety of ways to build their character, from melee-focused Fighters to lethal spellcasters like a Wizard.
However, some players may be interested in building their character in a role-playing game that leans slightly to the darker side of things, such as a Necromancer. With the power of the dark arts, players will likely be raising skeletons to do their bidding while siphoning blood from foes to heal themselves. Many RPGs take the Necromancer in different directions, but these are by far the best RPGs for players that are looking to play a Necromancer.
This article not only includes games that have Necromancer classes, but also games that allow the player to build their own Necromancer with the spells and abilities available.
Tales of Maj’Eyalhas a variety of classes for the player to choose from, as they unlock many of them while exploring in this RPG. This also includes a Necromancer class that many players ofTales of Maj’Eyalhave considered to be not only fun to play, but also overpowered due to how the player can summon countless undead minions to deal with the enemies ahead.
While with previous classes the player may have worried about losing their health, theNecromancer gains great joyfrom using their life source to create various horrifying creatures that may see players creeping into the negatives of their own health to cast their spells.
7Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous
Necromancers Are Lethal By The End Game
Originally,Pathfinderwasa tabletop RPGfor players to enjoy with friends in person. However, many tabletop experiences have been transformed into video games, like what Owlcat did when creatingPathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.
WhilePathfindermay not have a specified Necromancer class, there are an assortment of spells to be learned that belong to the Necromancy school of spells. Players are able to learn these different spells during their playthrough ofWrath of the Righteous, which may first start out as quite the weak class choice, but by the end, they are sure to have created a lethal Lich-like character that could rule the world.
Although the practice of Necromancy inThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis forbidden, players are still able to build their Dragonborn into a Necromancer through the various teachings found within the Conjuration school of magic. Players are still able to raise the dead as well as steal the souls of the living, as long as they level their conjuration skill.
Players may also want to dive into the other schools of magic, as these can contain just as useful spells to turn the player’s Dragonborn into one of the strongest Necromancers inSkyrim.
Diablo 4may have a limited number of classes with the recent DLC, Vessel of Hatred, adding a sixth class to the roster. One of the available classes for the players to choose from is the macabre Necromancer.
As an action RPG title, players are encouraged to createan impressive build for their Necromancerfrom the assortment of skills available within the skill tree that they can then experiment with differently for each season. Alongside the various blood, corpse, and bone abilities in the tree, players are also able to summon an assortment of skeletons or a horrific flesh golem to protect them from the hordes of monsters.
Becoming a Necromancer inDragon Age: Inquisitionis something a player isn’t able to achieve from the start of the game, but instead, something they will unlock once they have made progress in the main story of the title until they have made it to Skyhold as a Mage.
Once they have arrived at this main base of operations for the Inquisition, the player who decides to be a Mage may choose between three specializations, one being the Necromancer specialization. As a Necromancer, the player can decide on a variety of additional abilities that allow the player to frighten enemies and even bring their spirit back to fight for them once they have been defeated.
Necromancers may not have a named class inDivinity: Original Sin 2, but players are likely to start the game feeling similar to this class that controls the undead while playing as a Witch. Starting as this class gives players a variety of Necromancy spells for the player to experiment with, including the abilityto raise a Bloated Corpse that fights for the player and then explodes on command.
This is only the start of the player’s adventure to become a Necromancer inDivinity: Original Sin 2, with plenty of other spells to purchase. Players can even choose to play as an undead race to become part of their own undead army.
Elden Ringis another great RPG due to how it allows players to freely create their own builds through different weapons, armor, and spells that can be found while exploring the open-world. Players that wish to take on the various bosses ofElden Ringwhile creating a Necromancer may wish to focus on collecting a variety of Death Sorceries for their Tarnished warrior.
With a limited number of Death Sorceries, players are likely to have a much easier time selecting the spells they want to use. Unlike other souls-like titles, players have access to Ashes and a summoning bell to call forth the aid of various past foes to help them fight future bosses.
LikeDragon Age: Inquisition, while a player can’t have a main class of a Necromancer, those that choose to play as a Wizard inBaldur’s Gate 3can focus on the school of Necromancy as their subclass once they have made it to level three.
Even when not picking this Wizard subclass, a player can stillselect a variety of spellsfrom the school of Necromancy, which allows them to not only use the spell toCreate Undeadbut also early spells such asFalse Lifeto increase the Wizard’s health. It may still be a good idea to select the Necromancy subclass due to it allowing the player to have an additional undead minion.
