Zhongliis one of the most beloved characters inGenshin Impact.The former Geo Archon’s first story quest is one of the reasons why Zhongli became a popular character. Players were able to team up with him, alongside two “archaeologists,” to uncover an event from his past.
While this story quest is quite short compared to the ones released in later updates, it brings about compelling lore regarding Liyue’s situation in the Archon War and the gods that faced off against Zhongli. This quest serves as agreat reminder of Morax’s tragic, erudite, and divine nature, despite being well past his prime.
8Dehya (Lionsblood)
The Search For Kusayla
Dehya is an admirable characterwho serves as a trailblazer for the citizens of the Sumeru desert. She is a powerful and ruthless mercenary, but one with a definitive moral compass. This persona of hers is explored in her story quest, which should make any player find a new level of respect for the Flame-Mane.
Dehya’s unyielding search for her adoptive father, Kusayla, is a testament to her perseverance. Her disdain for other Eremite factions, such as Deshret’s Relics, gives players an outlook into the complex life of the Eremites and provides more depth to Dehya’s character. The climax of this story is arguably the best part and concludes a simple plot that works out excellently.
7Venti (Should You Be Trapped In A Windless Land)

Venti is one of the most mysterious characters inGenshin Impact.Despite being the Anemo Archon, there are plenty of suspicious things about the drunken bard that players simply do not have answers for at the moment. While Venti’s story quest does not address a lot of his personal connections and backstory, it does give gamers a glimpse into his absurd powers and the unwavering faith he garners from Mondstadt’s people.
The story of Stanley and the Mare Jivari are some of the most emotional scenes in the entire game. Much like the earlier story quests in the game, it is quite short, but it also delivers what it aims to do succinctly and entertainingly.
6Wriothesley (Reborn In The Land Of Grievances)
A Tragic Past Unearthed
It is safe to say thatWriothesleyis one of the coolest characters in the game. The Lord of the Fortress of Meropide is a staunch man who remains unfazed in any situation. However,he withholds a tragic and horrifying pastthat is delved into detail in his story quest.
In this mission, players will help Wriothesley investigate the nefarious Beret Society within the Fortress. Their leader, Dougier, plots to overthrow Wriothesley using inhumane methods. The horrible rules of the Beret Society and the ultimate downfall of Dougier is an incredibly satisfying moment. The flashback of Wriothesley murdering his abusive foster parents is a genuine shocker and explains a lot of the actions he takes during the quest.
The happy ending for Avice and Faissole, along with the rest of the people trapped by Dougier in the Beret Society, makes this story quest a fine blend of wholesome with the right amount of uneasiness.
5Raiden Shogun (Transient Dreams)
A New Age For Inazuma
Much like her fellow Archon colleague, Zhongli, Raiden Shogun is a very popular character inGenshin Impactthanks to her flashy powers and overwhelming strength. However, theRaiden Shogun is merely a puppetcreated by Ei to rule Inazuma on her behalf while she meditates inside the Plane of Euthymia.
This is a quest that expands enormously on Inazuma’s past and the adverse effects it faced during the Cataclysm. Ei’s epic showdown with the Raiden Shogun puppet to prove she is not facing erosion is an all-time classic scene. The bittersweet and brief reunion between Makoto and Ei, and the latter ultimately abolishing the Sakoku Decree makes this an emotionally weighted quest with plenty of lore implications.
4Nahida (Homecoming)
The Debut Of Apep
Nahida’s second story quest is essentially a massive lore dump filled with heart-touching moments. This quest is extremely well-written and aptly paced to the point where players will feel sadness at the demise of a mere Hydro Fungi, an important NPC that helpsNahida, the Traveler, and Paimon to find Apep, the Dendro Sovereign, and cure it.
The conversation with Apep towards the conclusion of the quest gives immense information regarding King Deshret, Forbidden Knowledge, Nibelung, Celestia, and the Abyss. The sheer importance of this quest in the grand scheme ofGenshin Impact’sstory alone warrants it a spot on this list. Pairing it with an enjoyable cast and Nahida further growing into a likable Archon makes it one of the best story quests in the game.
3Zhongli (No Mere Stone)
A Friend Turned Foe
Zhonglifeatures once again on this list, as his second story quest is one of the absolute best in the game. This quest introduced Azhdaha, the concept of erosion, and important lore about Liyue. It also featured a very seamless plot that intertwined well with Zhongli’s scholarly personality. Kun Jun was an enjoyable NPC that made the final moments of the quest quite profound.
The downfall of Azhdaha over the course of millenniums is sad to see. Zhongli’s relationship with Azhdaha and the consequences of erosion were brilliantly highlighted throughout the quest. This quest brought a grand weekly boss, lore advancements, and memorable moments, which are all hallmarks of a top-tier story quest.
2Tighnari (The Unanswerable Problems)
An Unlikely Tale
When Tighnari’s story quest was initially released, not many people would have expected it to be an emotional tale. After all,Tighnariis a Forest Watcher who does not lead a particularly enthralling or unique lifestyle compared to other characters from Sumeru. Tighnari’s story quest blew away all expectations by concocting a fabulous narrative that will leave players heartbroken upon its conclusion.
The tragic demise of Abbatouy and his robotic creation, Karkata, desperately trying to save him with mechanical parts, is an extremely depressing moment. It is impossible not to feel bad for Karkata and eventually check up on it every once in a while, at Pardis Dhyai, after completing the quest. While this story quest does not have any significant contributions to the lore, the grounded nature makes it very relatable and engaging.
1Neuvillette (The Remains Of The Past Day)
The History Of The Melusines
Neuvillette’s story quest is filled with poignant moments that hit too close to home. From accurate depictions of racism to justice ultimately failing to prevail, this quest is almost a stark reminder of the cruelty that takes place in the real world. Blending these social issues into an incredible story-telling experience while fleshing out one of the most loved characters' past is perfection.
There are little to no flaws in this quest. Vautrin is one of the best NPCs to be ever introduced in the game. The rocky history of the Melusines and their eventual assimilation into society is a captivating tale. Neuvillette’s story quest is easily one of the finest narratives inGenshin Impact, surpassing even archon quests.
