Summary
BioWare recently revealed thatDragon Age: The Veilguardwill not have any post-launch DLC. DespiteDragon Age: The Veilguard’s success, BioWare wants to focus on its future projects, following a different path than the one the studio took afterDragon Age: Inquisition’s launch.
Dragon Age: The Veilguardwas released on October 31after around nine years of development. The previous game in the franchise,Dragon Age: Inquisition, was launched in 2014, and it had three DLCs:Jaws of Hakkon,The Descent, andTrespassper.
BioWare’s creative directorJohn Epler recently revealed to Rolling Stonethat there are no plans to develop DLC forDragon Age: The Veilguard. As soon as the newDragon Ageis fully patched, the studio’s entire focus will shift to the development of the upcomingMass Effectgame. While this is disappointing news for fans who were excited to see more content in theDragon Ageuniverse, at least it means thatThe Veilguardwill not suffer from the same issues asInquisitiondid. Back in 2015,Dragon Age: Inquisitionwas greatly criticized for having the “true” ending of its story set in the “Trespasser” DLC.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Will Not Have DLC
During the same interview, Epler alsoaddressed the possibility of releasing aDragon Agecollection. According to the creative director, it’s not as easy to remaster allDragon Agegames as it was withMass Effect. The entireMass Effecttrilogy was made with Unreal Engine, whileDragon Age: Originsused the Eclipse engine, andDragon Age 2using the Frostbite engine. While Epler expressed interest in the classic games, it does not seem probable that a collection will ever come out.
While it won’t have any DLC,Dragon Age: The Veilguardhas been receiving positive reviewsfrom most critics. The game currently holds an average score of 82 on OpenCritic, with most reviewers praising its action-paced combat and the cast.

On Steam, for example, the title has Mostly Positive reviews, with 79% of all players liking the game. The impressions on consoles are even more positive, with the action RPG averaging 4.4 stars on the Xbox Store, and 4.58 stars on the PlayStation Store. While it’s still too early to know how wellThe Veilguardis faring financially, it’s at least possible to acknowledge that it’s doing much better thanMass Effect: AndromedaandAnthemcritically.
