Throughout theBlack Cloverseries, Noelle has proven to be a force to be reckoned with as she surpasses her limits.In Arc 11, a new threat is a danger to the entire world, and Asta was recently teleported to Hino Country during the Battle. However, many believed he had died during the battle with Lucius andSister Lily after he turned her into a Paladin. Stricken with grief, Noelle finds herself at sea and can pull herself out of her depressed state. This is when she meets Kahono, who informs her something awful has happened at the Underwater Temple.
Thanks to her improved strength, Noelle could form a contract with the Sea God Leviathan. Previously, during the Spade Kingdom Raid arc, Noelle temporarily formed a contract with Undine, the Water Spirit. This contract allowed Noelle to use Spirit Magic, which helped her control Undine’s mana. Noelle had also been training in the Heart Kingdom in preparation for the upcoming battle, where she learned True Water Magic. In doing so, Noelle further increased her ability tocontrol her Water Magic; thus, she could use Saint Stage against Vanica during the battle.
Through all of Noelle’s hard work and her ability to grow, the Sea God Leviathan recognized Noelle as a worthy contractee. This is how Noelle could form a contract with Leviathan; Noelle proved she had the power to assimilate the Sea God’s power. The first time Noelle uses this power is against her mother, who has been turned into a Paladin by Lucius Zogratis.
Who is the Sea God Leviathan?
The God that slumbers beneath the sea is about to go berserk
The Leviathan is a Sea God that the Underwater Temple has worshiped since ancient times. During this time, Leviathan had been slumbering within the Temple. However, Leviathan is only awoken when the world’s end is nigh. Once Levithan senses this, he will awaken from his slumber in a rage.
In Chapter 359, Leviathan states that he will become berserk when the world is in danger. As a result, he requires a strong contract with an individual who can assimilate a power similar to that of a Spirit. In doing so, Leviathan can vent his anger, which is why he requires a strong partner to enter a contract with. Noelle has proven she is an exceptional Water Mage, having a previous contract with Undine, an elemental spirit, and improved skills. However, it’s unclear whether this is a temporary contract.
The Underwater Temple is in a Grand Magic Zone, one of the most dangerous zones in the Clover Kingdom. It is east of Raque, a beach town in the Noble Realm. The residents of the Underwater Temple all worship and wear clothes fashioned with scale. Additionally, the temple priests practice magic to serve the Sea God, all derived from their environment, as mentioned by Kiato in Chapter 67.

As mentioned above, the Sea God Leviathan only awakens from his slumber when the world is in danger. It was the imminent Judgement Day that has awoken him from this slumber. Judgment Day is the Holy War in which Lucius Zogratis plans to establish himself as the Greatest Wizard King.
To do this,Lucius plans to recreate the humanrace by purifying and incarnating a devil’s power into a human. To Lucius, he believes this magic brings a sacred power to humans. Only Lucius can use this magic power due to his Soul Magic. With this, Lucius can alter the souls of humans and turn them into Paladins. Lucius had previously taken control of the Underworld, and withhis younger siblings, Body, Blood, and Bone Magic, he plans to turn the entire human race into Paladins.
