Black Myth: Wukong Seemingly Targeting 60 FPS on PS5

The first look at the PS5 version of the ARPG has now finally emerged on August 17, three days ahead ofBlack Myth: Wukong’s release. It arrived in the form of a 90-second clip shared by IGN China, which depicts a fight against an early-game boss. Aside from offering a closer look at the bipedal monstrosity that was already seen in some prior promo footage, the clip also appears to suggest thatBlack Myth: Wukongwill be targeting 60 frames per second on the PS5. The game does seem to dip below that target in the video, though the drops aren’t major.

While the newly shared promo footage is in 4K, the notion of the game targeting 60fps at this resolution sounds a bit too good to be true. Looking at theBlack Myth: WukongPC system requirements, getting the game to run at 4K and 60fps on PC will seemingly require an extremely beefy rig that’s way more powerful than the PS5. Granted, developers can usually squeeze a lot more performance out of consoles by virtue of having way fewer hardware configurations to target. But even so, delivering 4K gameplay at a stable 60fps with a game likeBlack Myth: Wukongwould be an essentially unprecedented technical achievement. It’s hence more likely that the game will only be targeting 60fps at 1080p, or maybe 1440p with upscaling.

What’s certain is that the upcoming ARPG will be an absolutely massive game. Specifically,Black Myth: Wukongwill weigh 104GB on the PS5and over 24GB more on PC. In terms of content, players can expect a single run through the game to last roughly 30 hours. The game’s initial critical reception has been fairly positive, as reflected in its “Strong” OpenCritic rating, which is backed by an aggregate score of 82 and a 72% reviewer recommendation rate.

Game Science’s latest title is scheduled to land on the PS5 and PC on August 20. An Xbox Series X/S port ofBlack Myth: Wukonghas also been announced, but is still waiting for a concrete release date.
