Summary
In anticipation of theBorderlandsmovie’s debut on July 23, 2025,Borderlandsbuilt up momentum for this milestone moment for the franchise with a newBorderlands 3update. This update forBorderlands 3introduced some character skins and other cosmetic items that celebrate some of the fan-favorite characters throughout the franchise, some of which are expected to make a central appearance in the upcomingBorderlandsmovie as a result of them receiving these new cosmetics.

All Heroes From The Borderlands Cosmetics in Borderlands 3 (and the Characters That Inspired Them)
Unlike most character cosmetic items, the new Heroes From TheBorderlandsskins and heads can be equipped on any of the fourplayable characters inBorderlands 3.
Moxxi has stolen the spotlight with this new set of skins, although this is a bit of a double-edged sword. On one hand, it’s always nice to see this fan-favorite character get more recognition in any way, shape, or form. On the other hand, though, Moxxi is arguably long overdue to be promoted to an independent weapon manufacturer and/or aplayable character in futureBorderlandsgames. While these cosmetics are another step in this direction, the character still has plenty of untapped potential for future games to unleash, and hopefully, these cosmetics inspired by Moxxi won’t be the last that fans see of them in future games.
In the case of Fran and Octavio, it’s nice to finally see some of theNew Tales From the Borderlandscharactersexplicitly acknowledged in the mainlineBorderlandsfranchise. But at the same time, it’s weird to see how many recurring characters didn’t get the Heroes From TheBorderlandstreatment with their own cosmetics, like Anu, the other playable character apart from Fran and Octavio.
These new cosmetics inBorderlands 3are said to be hyping up the upcomingBorderlandsmovie, which would explain the criteria for which characters inspired this new set of cosmetics. Still though, there seem to be a handful offan-favoriteBorderlandsfranchise charactersmissing, mainly Claptrap, Krieg, Roland, Tannis, and Tiny Tina. Perhaps this is a sign that futureBorderlandsgames will give these characters a proper tribute. Regardless, free cosmetics are still a cause for celebration, especially for franchise veterans and those excited about the new movie.
