The reviews have been unkind, with adismal Rotten Tomatoes critic scoreof 9%.TheBorderlandsmovie was doomed from the start, with reshoots taking place after Eli Roth initially finished the movie in 2021. Tim Miller came in to polish it up after test audiences were critical of Lionsgate’s latest offering. TheBorderlandsmovie’s storyfollows the adventures of a bounty hunter called Lilith (Cate Blanchett), who is approached in a bar by a mysterious corporate magnate, known as Atlas (Edgar Ramirez), who has a potentially lucrative job for her. She isn’t interested, but when he wires her the money up front, she agrees. Turns out, Atlas' daughter, Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), appears to have been kidnapped from a facility on the planet of Pandora, by a mercenary soldier called Roland (Kevin Hart), and his psycho sidekick,Krieg (played by actor, Florian Munteanu).

Lilith arrives on Pandora, which also happens to be her home planet. Turns out, Lilith hasn’t been back to Pandora since she was a child and there’s a reason for that; it’s run down and full of reminders of her troubled past. She befriends a robot called Claptrap (Jack Black), who has been programmed to help her at all costs. Lilith locates Tina, and she discovers Atlas wants his daughter back against her will, so she joins forces with Roland and Krieg, when they are all attacked by Atlas' private army known as the Crimson Lance.

The group needs three keys to get into the vault and the third key is actually Tina. Turns out, Atlas isn’t the biological father of Tina, but actually a clone he created from Eridian blood, with the sole purpose of gaining access to the vault.

How does Borderlands end?

Tina overhears Atlas talking to Lilith, and he asks her to betray Tina, and she wrongly assumes Lilith is going to go along with it. Feeling betrayed, she sets off a bomb, which knocks Lilith unconscious. Tina heads to the newly discovered vault entrance to open it with the help of Lilith’s long-lost foster mother, Dr Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Krieg. Meanwhile, Lilith regains consciousness and her and Claptrap stumble upon an abandoned area where Lilith grew up. A hologram of Lilith’s dead mother is activated inside of Claptrap, and she reveals that Lilith is the only one who can open the vault.

Tina fails to open the vault, and Atlas arrives with his team of soldiers. He plans to kill Tina, thinking she is just another dodgy clone. Roland arrives on the scene to help Tina and co, and the leader of Atlas’ forces, Commander Knoxx (Janina Gavankar), switches alliances and helps Roland. Lilith arrives, and tells everyone she is the only one who can open the vault.

Lilith makes a deal with Atlas that he must let everyone go if she opens the vault for him. When she begins to open the vault, she is given a boost of energy, and she burns brightly with fiery wings. Turns out, she is a legendary deity known as the Firehawk. Lilith fights Atlas’ forces with her powers, and creates energy shields around the group so they can fight back too.

Everyone else is defeated apart from Atlas, who grabs Tina, and threatens to kill her unless he’s brought inside the vault. Lilith agrees, but Tina kicks him in the leg and runs to Lilith. Atlas is grabbed by a large creature with tentacles inside the vault and killed, while Lilith and Tina make a run for it.

In a nearby town, the locals celebrate the defeat of Atlas. Lilith and the rest of the team all celebrate, watching on as a huge fireworks display takes place. Lilith turns on her Firehawk powers and flies into the air, which creates a huge bird in the sky. Lilith confirms that, despite her issues with Pandora, it is now home.

Is there a post credits scene?

After the main credits roll, there is a cut to a black screen and Claptrap appears at the top, singing and dancing, but the remaining closing credits begin coming up from the bottom of the screen, and they hit Claptrap, which knocks him on his side on top of the first credit line. He insists that he’s just giving the audience what they want, but the credits continue to push him off the screen.
