Summary
The FBI investigation into Harry Bosch and Honey Chandler inBosch: Legacywas still ongoing at the end of season 2. However, the upcoming third season has a lot to unpack, with Chandler’s run for district attorney and the expansion of the Bosch-verse with the Renee Ballard crossover all set to featurealongside other important plot points. It could be too much to contend with, and it might be wise to put the FBI’s case on the back burner for now, and revisit it in a future season.
Anthony Michael Hall isn’t returning as FBI Agent William BaroninBosch: Legacyseason 3 and that is another reason why it might be best to rest the story for now. Baron was heading up the FBI case into Bosch and Chandler’s involvement in Carl Rogers' murder, and despite Chandler’s success in getting the case thrown out in court, the plucky FBI goon was still looking for ways to reinvent the investigation as season 2 came to an end.

Agent William Baron (Anthony Michael Hall) was gearing up to keep going with his vendetta against Bosch and Chandler, despite the case being thrown out, due to some top class legal work by Chandler.Bosch: Legacyseason 2ended with fans wondering ifMo Bassi would turn on Bosch and Chandler, after Baron arrested him after a sting operation and offered him a deal if the tech-savvy hacker turned on his employers.
Everything was set up forBosch: Legacyseason 3 to focus on Agent Baron’s continuing investigation into Maurice ‘Mo’ Bassi, Bosch and Chandler, but Anthony Michael Hall’s exit from the role has raised doubts about this particular plot point resurfacing in any meaningful way. There is a chance that a new character could be brought in to continue Baron’s investigation, but that would be a shame as Hall was so good in the role, and so much was set up for his character. It might be a better idea to put the FBI investigation on hold inBosch: Legacyseason 3 and focus on other important developments.
2025 is a massive year forBosch: Legacyas it expands into a full-blown television universe, withRenee Ballard showing up sooner than expectedin season 3, before her own spin-off series airs later in the year.It might be too much forBosch: Legacyto continue the FBI investigation while trying to set up the spin-off series, and also focus on other important plot points.
What Other Plot Points Could See The FBI Investigation Being Left Behind In Season 3?
The Aftermath of Kurt Dockweiler’s Murder
The big cliffhanger at the end ofBosch: Legacyseason 2 saw the return ofPreston Borders, a villain from the originalBoschseries who Harry Bosch was responsible for putting in prison. Maddie intercepts a collect call from Borders at Wasco St Prison, and he tells herHarry Bosch ordered the hit on Kurt Dockweiler. Maddie confronts her father about it, and the season ends, setting it up for Season 3 to expand the plot point. It’ll be an important one to unpack, while also focusing on setting up the upcoming season’s other stories.
The New Cases
Bosch: Legacyseason 3 will be partly based on Michael Connelly’s book,The Black Ice, which is set to see Harry Bosch investigate the case of a mysterious new drug doing the rounds in Los Angeles, courtesy of the Mexican Cartel. The private investigator will look into links between the drug and the death of a narcotics detective. The case sounds like it could be one of Harry Bosch’s most intense yet, as it leads him over the border, and into a very precarious position.Bosch: Legacyseason 3 will have to balance this case with Renee Ballard’s investigation, with Connelly’s book,Desert Star, also being used as inspiration for the upcoming season.
Honey Chandler’s Run for District Attorney
In addition to the unpacking of the allegations about the Kurt Dockweiler murder and the two cases that will feature inBosch: Legacyseason 3, there is also the matter ofwhat Chandler will do if she becomes DA. Chandler is a co-lead inBosch: Legacyalongside Maddie and Harry Bosch, sothe plot point involving Chandler’s run for the big prosecutor job should take priority over the FBI’s investigationinto her involvement in Carl Rogers' murder. If she becomes DA, she will likely have the power to crush any FBI investigation anyway, so it might be best to revisit this story in a later season, when Chandler might not have the backing of the DA’s office behind her anymore.
