Since its inception inCall of Duty: World at War, the franchise’s Zombies mode has been a fan-favorite. This mode has grown and changed across many different titles, taking players on a terrifying journey filled with memorable characters, wild stories, and hordes of zombies to kill. WithCall of Duty: Black Ops 6, players are once more being plunged into the spine-tingling world of the Dark Aether story, which has been fantastic to see. However, a recent leak may putCall of Duty: Black Ops 6’s future in a tough spot.

Naturally, the mainBlack Ops 6Zombiesstory has carried on from the last couple of maps and has further built out its intriguing lore. But, while that has been fun, new leaks suggest thatCall of Duty2025 may be taking a step back and putting players in the shoes of the series' classic characters instead. Not only does that meanBlack Ops 6has to somehow justify their comeback, but it also has to tie everything together into one larger, cohesive narrative. And if that was not hard enough, it needs to do it all over the span of the next couple of months.

Call of Duty 2025 Zombies Leaked Explained

As of now,not a lot is known aboutCall of Duty2025, asBlack Ops 6has just hit store shelves. Rumors suggest that it will be a direct sequel toBlack Ops 2, likely continuing the themes and story from that game. That has already peaked many fans interest, but now recent leaks have also shed light on what the game’s Zombies mode will look like. Even though nothing has been officially announced yet, the concepts alone sound promising.

TheCall of Dutyzombies’ leaks have suggested that the original crew players fell in love with will be making their grand return in the next game. However, this crew will be taking on a whole new look and feel, as the story plans to use them in a brand-new way. The leak, which was initially reported by Insider Gaming, suggests that players will be controlling an older version of the Primis crew as opposed to the Ultimis versions. Additionally,a new Tranzit-like mapwith a large play space and a bold method of traversal is allegedly in production, and there are plans for six Zombies maps in the next game. Of course, it remains to be seen if any of this is true, but if it is, then it putsBlack Ops 6in a difficult position.

Black Ops 6 Has a Lot of Story It Needs to Get Through Now

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode serves asa direct sequel toBlack Ops Cold War’s iteration, and further builds upon the Dark Aether Saga that has been the focus of this mode for a couple of entries now. Through the game’s first two Zombies maps, players are able to assume the role of some familiar faces and learn even more about the mysterious things happening within this timeline. But if the leaks are to be believed, things are about to get a bit more complex.

The original crew’s storyline wasconcluded at the end ofBlack Ops 4, along with the finale of the Aether timeline. Since then, the Dark Aether Saga has been the focal point, with a couple of hints toward the Chaos universe being merged with the Dark Aether saga as well. Mixing the mythology-focused world of Chaos with the grounded, military-centric Dark Aether story will already take some work. Additionally, withModern Warfare 3Zombies suggesting that theBlack Ops 6crew will die at some point in the near future, Treyarch has to write their deaths into an upcoming map. All this is to say that if the original crew come back,Black Ops 6needs to do a good job of making their inclusion make sense while also juggling some massive plot threads. It may have to retcon some events without frustrating fans of the lore, while ultimately justifying Primis' resurrection.

Inserting Primis into the Dark Aerther story would be difficult enough on its own, but the studio has to do this while answering questions about the Dark Aether Saga and tying in the Chaos story like it teased inBlack Ops 6’s Terminus. There are a lot of Zombies plot points to juggle leading up toCall of Duty 2025’s release, and while it will be interesting to see them come together, hopefully the studio has not bitten off more than it can chew.
