Summary
While multiplayer has been the primary focus of the last fewCall of Dutygames' pre-release marketing, it’s Zombies that’s taking center stage withCall of Duty: Black Ops 6. Following a brief tease at the end of June’s Direct,Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Zombies modehas just been fully revealed, with a series of official trailers showing off the mode’s opening cinematic, and revealing a ton of new gameplay.
A prison island floating in the Philippine Sea, Terminus looks like a true return to form forCall of Dutyround-based Zombies, hearkening back to iconic maps like Mob of the Dead and Shi No Numa while producing something new and exciting. But while Terminus held the spotlight inCall of Duty: Black Ops 6’s recent Zombies reveal, it’s just one of two maps that players will be able to jump into at launch, and Treyarch has already teased that a controversial Wonder Weapon might be making its return in the second.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Jet Gun Needs Some Major Improvements
Call of Duty’s Jet Gun Has Always Been Bottom of the Barrel
In the last 16 years,Call of Duty: Zombieshas had no shortage of Wonder Weapons, and while every fan has their personal favorite, there are a handful that are undeniably worse than the rest. The Jet Gun is one such Wonder Weapon. First introduced inCall of Duty: Black Ops 2’s controversial TranZit map, the Thurstodyne Aeronautics Model 23 – most commonly referred to as the Jet Gun – is widely considered to be one of the worst Wonder Weapons inCall of Duty: Zombieshistory.
Unlike most Wonder Weapons that can either be found in a Mystery Box or by completing a few steps of the map’s Easter egg,Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s Jet Gunneeds to be built, and its parts are scattered across the large map. This already makes the Jet Gun a bit of an annoyance, but what really drops it to the bottom of the barrel is that it explodes after extended use. When the left dial on the weapon model hits the red, the Jet Gun explodes in the player’s hand, damaging them a little and scattering the weapon’s parts all around them. The player needs to pick all of these parts back up and reassemble the weapon manually at a workbench to use it again.
As alluded to up top,Call of Duty: Black Ops 6is bringing back the Jet Gun Wonder Weapon for its Liberty Falls map. This isn’t the first timeCall of Dutyhas tried to bring back a disappointing Wonder Weapon.Call of Duty: Black Ops' Winter’s Howl Wonder Weapon was considered one of the worst in the series when it first released in 2010, but it made a comeback in 2018 with the release ofCall of Duty: Black Ops 4and its remastered “Classified” map. This new version of the Winter’s Howl saw some significant improvements, such as increased ammo size, more powerful shots that slowed enemies faster, and less of a damage drop-off in later rounds. That being said,Black Ops 4’s Winter’s Howl still doesn’t rank anywhere near the top ofWonder Weapon tier lists.
How Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Can Improve the Jet Gun
The Jet Gun may be considered one of theworst Wonder Weapons inCall of Dutyhistory, but the weapon’s actual fire mode isn’t all that bad. It’s fun to suck up hordes of Zombies and blend them into goo.Call of Duty: Black Ops 6just needs to remove the annoying limitations ofBO2’s Jet Gun, such as its ability to explode in the player’s hands and the frustrating need to build it back up each time.
