Summary
ACall of Duty: Black Ops 6player has shown the drastic aim assist nerf in this year’s shooter when compared to 2023’sModern Warfare 3, highlighting just how little controller assist there is at close range. AlthoughBlack Ops 6andModern Warfare 3are developed by two completely different studios, aim assist is a divisive subject when it comes to first-person shooters, and this year’sCall of Dutytitle has made some major adjustments to the feature.
After players had the opportunity to go hands-on with the latestCall of Dutytitle earlier this year, Treyarch confirmed it would be making somemajor aim assist changes toBlack Ops 6. Now, with the full release taking place last week, fans are getting to experience what those adjustments feel like in-game. While some players are loving the changes, others feel as though the feature has been nerfed too heavily.
Call of Duty Player Compares Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare 3 Aim Assist
Call of Duty’s aim assist has always been incredibly strong, and one player is showing just how overpowered the feature was in last year’sModern Warfare 3when compared toBlack Ops 6. Over on Reddit, user HeckingtonSmythe has done some rigorous testing and put together a short clip that compares the two shooter’s aim assist. While distances from 18 to 6.5 meters show identical results, closer range engagements reveal thatBlack Ops 6’s aim assist drops off drastically, meaning players are required to do more work when it comes to aiming. Whether or not this is a good or bad thing ultimately comes down to personal preference.
The response to the user’s results has been mostly positive, with one user saying, “Nerfing point blank aim assist like that is a really good change, I can’t find any good justification as to why it should track this much up close.” Others speculate that close-range aim assist was nerfed to compensate forBlack Ops 6’s new omnidirectional movement system, as a heavier aim assist feature would give players attempting to make the most of omnimovement no chance at all.
Aim assist isn’t the only divisive change made in the latestCall of Dutytitle either, as some players have recently started to call forthe removal ofBlack Ops 6’s Recon perk. This Combat Specialist perk allows players to see the enemy team through walls for a short period of time after respawning, and while some players believe it simply needs a counter perk to balance things out, others want it removed from the game completely.
