Summary
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6has finally released a full-length gameplay trailer for Zombies, complete with an action-packed preview of what enemies await players. The anticipated launch ofBlack Ops 6looks like a promising venture into Gulf War espionage, but the Zombies mode has been teasing a thrilling new chapter. Requiem has been broken out of prison at Terminus by Dr. William Peck, and the location looks to be a fun setting to take down some zombie hordes.
Call of Dutyhas been one of the biggest gaming franchises of the 21st-century, and the eventual addition of the Zombies mode has become a long-running feature of each new installment.AsBlack Ops 6evolves the franchise further, Zombies is aiming even higher this time around. The first look at what enemies can be expected promises plenty of gore-filled moments, but it also shares a glaring similarity with two franchises well-known for their body horror. For players ofResident Evil 4andThe Forest, some of Zombies' enemies may look familiar.
Black Ops 6 Zombies' Enemies Seem to Be Heavily Influenced By Resident Evil 4 and The Forest
Taking Note of Resident Evil 4’s Las Plagas
One of the most notable moments from the Zombies gameplay trailer features a zombie being taken over by some sort of parasitic monster that bursts through its body, turning it into a spider-like work of horror. It’s a gory, spine-chilling moment that seems to be a clear reference to howthe Las Plagas ofResident Evil 4affects its victims. The longer one is infected by Las Plagas, the more it breaks down their physical form. Eventually, it breaks through their bodies in a violent, bloody mess, turning the host into a monstrosity, just as this parasite does inBlack Ops 6Zombies.
One of The Forest’s Most Notable Enemies
The climax of the gameplay trailer for Zombies comes near the end, when a giant enemy appears. This massive tangle of limbs looks nearly identical toArmsy fromThe Forest. The similarity is pretty blatant, which makes one wonder if developer Treyarch looked to popular body horror franchises likeThe Forestas a source of inspiration.
Asmore information aboutBlack Ops 6comes to light, it will be interesting to see the backstory behind these enemies. These clear similarities are both puzzling and intriguing. Such grotesque and well-designed zombified enemies will hopefully have an equally compelling backstory explaining what caused these types of mutations.
Black Ops 6 Zombies Approaching the Formula in New Ways
The past few years have been a bumpy ride for theCall of Dutyfranchise, butBlack Ops 6will hopefully turn that around. Leaks have revealed thatBlack Ops 6is bringing some long-awaited changes to the seriesthat will give Zombies some great upgrades. Hopefully, this will also be seen in the game’s zombies. The parasitic enemy and the mutated monster made of arms are promising adversaries to face, but it is also really hard to ignore the resemblance to other franchise enemies.Resident Evil 4isn’t the first game to feature parasitic hosts, butThe Forest’s Armsy is a pretty unique creation, so if Treyarch purposefully took inspiration from the mutant, it’s a bold move.
Based on early looks,Black Ops 6is experimenting with what Zombies can be, and that’s exciting. As the release ofBlack Ops 6draws closer, more details about Zombiesare bound to come to light. The upcoming enemies promise some thrilling and tense encounters, but it will be interesting to see if Treyarch addresses the similarities in character design.
