But with the shooter now approaching the end of its life cycle, Activision is once again teaming up with an iconic horror franchise for a big collaboration.
In recent years, Activision has found itself in hot water with theCall of Dutycommunity as it continues to ramp up the number of collaborations and unrealistic cosmetic items in every entry. While it certainly isn’t the first in the series to collaborate with popular movies, TV shows, and music artists,Black Ops 6has received a huge amount of flak from its playerbase for the high number of crossover events that have occurred since its launch. Despite the constant criticisms, Activision has now revealed another collaboration forCall of Duty’s big Season 5 update.
Earlier this week,Call of Dutyrevealed its full Season 5 roadmap. Fans of the shooter can once again expect a plethora of content to make its way to bothBlack Ops 6andWarzone, as well as a new collaboration with the iconic horror franchise,I Know What You Did Last Summer.According to a recent blog post, The Fisherman will be coming to the in-game store as part of a new bundle during Season 5. No date for the bundle was provided by Activision, apart from “in-season,” which likely means it will arrive with the mid-season update, approximately one month after launch. This isn’t the first time thatCall of Dutyhas collaborated with an iconic horror franchise, and it likely won’t be the last. Back in 2021, Activision revealed a new crossover betweenBlack Ops Cold WarandScream, which brought the legendary Ghostface to the series as a new playable operator. Since then,Call of Dutyhas collaborated withThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre,Halloween,The Crow,SAW, and many more. Many of these crossovers brought horror’s most recognizable villains intoCall of Dutyas playable operators, and The Fisherman is set to join them as the next horror icon inCall of Duty.
Unfortunately, many ofCall of Duty’s collaborations often come with controversy. The most recent event sawAmerican Dadcharacters added toBlack Ops 6andWarzone, just weeks afterBeavis & Butt-Headwere also added to the game. With a plethora of different cartoon characters now parading around multiplayer andWarzonelobbies, fans appear to be sick of the immersion-ruining cosmetic items. Many seemed to specifically have a problem with the new Stan Smith operator, as some players called it “incredibly bad,” while others said the overall quality of the skin was poor and not on the same level as games likeFortnite.
