Summary

Ever since the announcement ofRobert Downey Jr becoming Doctor Doom, the question has been what version of Doom RDJ will be portraying in theMCU. The fact that RDJ also played Iron Man, and that Tony Stark’s face is iconic and recognizable in the mainMCUuniverse, it stands to reason that the Doom he is portraying helms from a different universe. While there are an infinite number of possibilities for how Doom enters theMCU, one possibility from more recent Avengers comics may be the introduction of Doom Supreme.

The self-proclaimed most powerful Doom of them all, Doom Supreme not only powered himself, but entered into a deal withnone other than Mephisto himself, the devil of the Marvel Universe, in which he gathered a group of the most powerful and evil villains of the multiverse to form the Multiversal Masters of Evil in order to conquer all realities. So, with Doom becoming the catalyst for bothAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars, could RDJ be bringing a version of Doom Supreme and the Multiversal Masters of Evil to Life?

Doom Supreme, EXPLAINED

Introduced in the pages of Marvel Comics 2021 run of Avengers comics, Doom Supreme hails from Earth-22215, an alternate Earth in which he became all powerful. He powered his armor by going after alternate versions of himself, using their life force to power his armor and converting other Dooms to serve him and his will. This included a Man-Thing version known as Doom-Thing, and the powerful Doom the Living Planet, aversion of Ego the Living Planet. He would call himself the “Doom who breaks Other Dooms”.

It wouldn’t be until Doom Supreme witnessed a battle between Kid Thanos and the Prehistoric Avengers that the multiversal plans would come to fruition. Mephisto approached Doom Supreme, advising the villain to gather the most evil villins of the multiverse and use them to conquer all other universes, until only the 616 universe was left. So Doom Supreme went to work, gathering the likes of Black Skull (Red Skull with a symbiote), Dark Phoenix, Ghost Goblin (Ghost Rider and Green Goblin), Kid Thanos, and finallyKing Killmonger, an Eric Killmongerthat laced vibranium into the destroyer armor and conquered both Asgard and Wakanda.

Could Robert Downey Jr’s Doom Be Inspired by An Infamous What If… Story

They went around and conquered many worlds, but they violated their agreement with Mephisto and attacked 616 Earth early, destroying Avengers Mountain and slaying the Orb, who had been harboring the Eye of Uatu the Watcher. He takes a piece of the Eye and infuses it into his own before leaving. When Ghost Rider nearly defeats the Multiversal Masters of Evil, Doom Supreme nearly beats the cosmicallypowered Ghost Rideruntil an alternate Tony Stark version of Ant-Man and Deathlok save the hero. Doom Supreme soon abandons his allies when they fight both the Avengers and Prehistoric Avengers, leaving them behind to return to his loyal Dooms.

In the fight between Mephisto’s Council of Red and the Multiversal Avengers, Doom arrives to claim the power of the God Quarry that Mephisto sought for himself. He would fight Old Man Phoenix, Avenger Prime, and several other heroes as the fight for all existence was waged. Eventually, Doom gains a sample of multiversal energy, but it turns him to stone as the Multiversal Avengers, including a Ghost Rider who hijackedDoom Planet (now the Planet of Vengence), seal the breach in the God Quarry, ending the multiversal threat of both Mephisto and Doom Supreme once and for all.

Doom Supreme Heading for The MCU?

While Doom Supreme is a fairly new version of Doom and the iconic Doom has yet to be introduced, theMCUis not known for going traditional with their characters or stories.Thanos, for instance, had a much moreideological (no matter how wrong or misguided) reason for getting the Infinity Stones than his comic book counterpart, who did it to impress Mistress Death, whom he loved. So could the creators of theMCUadapt Doom Supreme in much the same way, changing him to be a multiversal threat that sees his actions as a means of saving reality, only by his own means?

Bringing back foes from the previousMCUfilms like a child version of Thanos, or the Red Skull with a symbiote, or even Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger as King Killmonger would be a thrilling new direction to take the leadup toSecret Wars, serving in much the same capacity as Thanos’s Black Order inAvengers: Infinity War. Perhaps a scarred and arrogant Doom from an alternate reality that witnessed the death of his world sees his mission to control and protect the world warped, with Doom being the only one who can save them all. Sending the Multiversal Masters of Evil against the heroes would definitely up the stakes of the franchise, and would explain an alternate reality version of Doomlooking so much like Tony Stark. If theMCUuses its magic and changes things just right, the heroes could be facing one of the most powerful versions of an already deadly Victor Von Doom in the upcoming multiversal saga.
