Summary
Massive Monster’sCult of the Lambhas finally added local co-op in its latest update, Unholy Alliance. The long-awaited feature is just one of many new goodies for players to enjoy in the cutesy horror roguelite released for multiple platforms in 2022. Published by Devolver Digital,Cult of the Lambputs players in the role of a little lamb who, at the orders of a powerful deity, must form a cult to honor them.
Cult of the Lambcombines base building with dungeon crawling, with the eponymous hero indoctrinating followers; performing sermons, rituals, and perhaps sacrifices; and of course providing for the cultists’ basic necessities. This requires building shelters, growing food, appeasing their worries, doing favors to maintain their loyalty, and keeping everything sanitary so they don’t get sick. In between cleaning up vomit and building altars, theLamb must venture into the nearby dungeonsto confront the four Bishops and release the aforementioned god.
Massive Monster has so far released three free expansions forCult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith in April 2023, Sins of the Flesh in January 2024, and now Unholy Alliance. One of the more exciting additions coming toCult of the Lambwith this latest update is local two-player co-op, with one person filling the role of the Lamb while the second is the Goat. The two players will be able to venture into dungeons together, take on minigames like Knucklebones, and of course maintain their cult. There are also now new relics and tarot cards, some of them geared specifically toward cooperative play.
Cult of the Lamb Unholy Alliance Is the 3rd Major Update
Unholy Alliance also adds newfollower traits toCult of the Lamb, making cultists even more unpredictable and challenging to satiate. They can now be insomniacs or bust their friends out of prison, become catatonic or cursed, and even snore loud enough to wake their fellows. Additionally, followers who are sent out on missions might return inspired or traumatized by the experience. And whereas before, the Lamb’s spouse would not be pleased if they caught their leader philandering with another, some followers are now polyamorous and won’t mind if their little lamb wanders. Some cultists, on the other hand, might become homicidally jealous.
Cult of the Lamb’s Unholy Alliance also gives players two new structures to build in their compound: a Nursery and a Knucklebones arena. The Nursery can succor three babies at once, who will also provide a lot of extra fertilizer for crops until they age out at 14. The Lamb can take on one follower a day in the Knucklebones arena, and they’ll level up instantly if they lose. Along with a number of quality-of-life improvements and new quests,Cult of the Lamb’s Unholy Alliance updateoffers plenty of reason for players to revisit their cult compound if they haven’t in a while.
