Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City is a large cultural melting pot where individuals of different backgrounds mingle, and crime rates are through the roof in the futuristic megacity. To survive the harsh climate, criminals with similar ideals band together to form gangs, strengthening their footholds in their local communities. WithPhantom Liberty’s map expansion into Dogtown, there’s more real estate than ever inCyberpunk 2077, and each crew has a part to play in the unfolding of V’s story.
Eleven gangs currently run the streets of Dogtown and Night City inCyberpunk 2077. Each of these contributes to the game’s overarching storyline through their questlines and motives. Based on their plot relevance and visual x-factor, there’s a way to break them down into tiers.
S-Tier Gangs in Cyberpunk 2077
Arguments can be made about what gangs constitute the face of theCyberpunk 2077experience, but Maelstrom, Barghest, and the Voodoo Boys are among the cream of the crop in sheer power and technological know-how. A typical booster gang known for over-the-top cybernetic enhancements (often to the point of cyber psychosis), Maelstrom spawned in the 2020s. They run the biggest gang-owned club in Night City as part of their operations, and their interwoven status withV’s questsalong with their 1300+ members makes them one of the most feared inCyberpunk 2077.
Barghest and the Voodoo Boys share a similar status to Maelstrom for different reasons. In Barghest’s case, their leader, Kurt Hansen, clashes withV’s motives in the Phantom Liberty DLC. This nuisance role, along with a notoriety for debauchery and lawlessness after kicking the NCPD out of Dogtown, contributes to their elite status. The Voodoo Boys may not have as much of a menacing street presence, but they make the Net their haven, planting viruses and interfering with neural networks. GivenCyberpunk 2077’s futuristic computer-based plot, they constitute a threat that can’t be ignored; a fact V acknowledges by working with them in the Transmission quest.
A-Tier Gangs in Cyberpunk 2077
The Wraiths need no introduction inCyberpunk 2077loredespite hanging around on the outskirts of Night City. While other gangs might police areas within the metropolis, Wraiths have made the Badlands their turf, making a handsome living through ambushes and raids. Their spot this high in the list lies in the visual x-factor, highlighted by their leader, Dogkiller, donning human skin in a terrifying show. Likewise, in a plotline built with a hyper cyberfocus, the Tyger Claws bring a refreshingly familiar outlook toCyberpunk 2077’s mix.
The Japanese Yakuza-esque gang boasts over 5,000 members in its ranks, and their benefactor in Arasaka makes them a dominant force. With his formidable backing, the Tyger Claws have secured ownership of several legitimate businesses, but their preference to operate under the radar compared to the likes of Barghest makes them slightly less attractive. Similarly, in terms of sheer rank size, few rival the Aldecaldos, although the majority stay away from Night City. Despite their middling stance, their leader’s friendship with Johnny Silverhandand their affinity to assisting V in their quests endear them to the plot in a way few others can compete with.
B-Tier Gangs in Cyberpunk 2077
One of the most cut-throat establishments inCyberpunk 2077, 6th Streetis a classic case of a hero living long enough to become the villain. Abandoning their original idealistic fight for justice, the gang took over the Santo Domingo province, making their daily bread through protection fees and all sorts of racketeering activities. However, compared to the plot involvement of the other bandits, they seem to lack some flamboyance. Similarly, Valentinos not having the most formidable power sets them back a bit, but fun activities like street parties and drag races separate them from everyone else in a good way.
In the same vein, theAnimals may not stick out as the most powerful or influential in Night City. However, their specialization in wreaking havoc with the help of an aggression-inducing drug called The Juice gives them an extra bit of flair. Their members are intimidating to come across, with their increased physical abilities, and such toughness is only rivaled by the likes of Maelstrom.
C-Tier Gangs in Cyberpunk 2077
Although their moniker indicates living off scraps, the Scavengers are known for their ill-gotten liquidity. A large contingent of their members have Russian heritage, and they prowl thestreets of Night Citysearching for their prey. Their primary source of income lies in kidnapping people and harvesting valuable cybernetic implants to make a quick buck selling their loot. Unlike other gangs, there’s no defined hierarchy, and that lack of structure translates poorly inCyberpunk 2077. They have little impact on the overarching plot, and their roughshod practices don’t hold water for entertainment purposes.
The Mox find themselves in a similar slot at the bottom of theCyberpunk 2077’s gang food chain. One of Night City’s newer criminal societies, their size pales compared to the others, with only about 200 members in their ranks. Due to their limited numbers, as well as a protection focus centered around sex workers, they aren’t among the premier groups in the game.
