Summary
The world ofCyberpunk 2077is rich in intriguing locations beyond Night City, and though little is really known yet about its future sequel codenamed Project Orion other than its promise to “prove the full power and potential of theCyberpunkuniverse,” it seems almost certain that this ambitious sequel will take players beyond Earth at one point or another. Yes, dystopian metropolises such as the familiar Night City make up the foundation ofCyberpunk 2077’s universe, though the game’s world also features an emphasis on locations in space — some of which could be explored thoroughly in individual quests sometime in the future.
Spoilers ahead forCyberpunk 2077and its Phantom Liberty DLC.
From lunar colonies housing tens of thousands of people to a wide variety of corporate and luxury orbital stations, theCyberpunkuniverse is full of interesting placesthat are very much out of the reach of ordinary people. Night City, along with many other urban hotspots throughout the world ofCyberpunk 2077, even features its own spaceports to accommodate regular space flights. Players can, of course, visit Night City’s spaceport on Morro Rock in the game, with this location playing an important part in Phantom Liberty’s main story if players choose to betray Reed.
How The Endings of Cyberpunk 2077 Could Influence The Beginning of Its Sequel
Variousepilogues inCyberpunk 2077see V going beyond Earth themselves, though these ending-dependent scenes focus on wrapping up V’s story instead of introducing a fully-fledged gameplay experience. Siding with Arasaka and achieving The Devil ending gives players a glimpse at the Arasaka Orbital Station, where they undergo an experimental treatment that removes the Relic from their body — despite the surgery ultimately failing to prevent their demise. This ambiguous Arasaka facility is more than just a medical space station though, and stands out as one of the more interesting locations in theCyberpunkuniverse.
Not only does the Arasaka Orbital Station serve as a cutting-edge medical facility for the top one percent, but it’s also a top-secret Arasaka facility housing Mikoshi servers. Mikoshi is one of the Arasaka corporation’s flagship projects, a part of cyberspace that houses the digitized “souls” of the wealthy elite who seek immortality, as well as the engrams of those who became victims of the corporation’s Soulkiller AI, such as Johnny Silverhand. As such, this orbital facility is a crucial component of Mikoshi, and if Mikoshi is to play a part in thestory ofCyberpunk 2077’s sequel, it wouldn’t be outlandish for the game to allow players to pay the station a visit as part of a mission that focuses on destroying Mikoshi for good.
Arasaka Orbital Station Isn’t The Only Space Station in Cyberpunk 2077 That Could Make a Comeback in Its Sequel
With next to nothing actually being known about Project Orion just yet, there are plenty of theories going around. Many of the players who speculate that V will return as the player character in Project Orion have suggested that the sequel could even include a mission that allows players to experience the Crystal Palace heist that’s teased in The Sun ending ofCyberpunk 2077. This ending sees V realizing their dream as a legend of The Afterlife, carrying out an unprecedented gig on behalf ofthe single most enigmatic character inCyberpunk 2077:Mr. Blue Eyes. This would make for another incredible mission in the final frontier, though the obvious problem with all of this is that there really is no canon ending toCyberpunk 2077.
Many parts of the game’s universe, including the fate of the Arasaka Corporation as a whole, hinge on which ending players get. This makes it difficult to speculate how Project Orion might expand on the material introduced inCyberpunk 2077, but regardless, it seems more than likely for the sequel to include some missions set in space considering the possibilities. It’s possible thatone ofCyberpunk 2077’s endings might be cemented as canonin Project Orion, or the sequel might even allow players' decisions from the first game to carry over, similarly to theMass Effectseries.
