On July 31, Motion Twin confirmed thatDead Cells' Update 35 would be released on August 19, and the update is now live. Titled “The End is Near,” Update 35 introduces a range of significant additions and enhancements focused on the curse mechanic. The update features three new cursed enemies: Sore Loser, Doom Bringer, and Curser. Each enemy introduces unique mechanics that increase curse stacks, adding complexity to the gameplay. For example, Sore Loser curses players upon defeat, while Doom Bringer applies multiple curse stacks and stuns the player, making encounters more challenging. The new biome effect, Cursed Biomes, includes these cursed enemies and offers increased rewards such as higher gear levels and a greater chance of finding cursed chests.

The update also expands players' strategic options with three new weapons and mutations tied to the curse mechanic. Weapons like Anathema and Misericorde introduce innovative ways to handle curses, offering new combat strategies. The three new mutations, Cursed Flask, Damned Vigor, and Demonic Strength, provide powerful abilities at the cost of increasing curse stacks, requiring players to balance power with risk. Nearly 20 new legendary affixes, including “Filthy Rich” and “Punish Combo,” are also added, offering new ways to enhance gear and customize builds, encouraging players to experiment with different strategies in managing cursed content.

In addition to gameplay changes, the update brings extensive improvements in customization and accessibility. Over 40 new head skins are available, inspired by iconic figures from the game, includingDead Cellsbosses like the Queenand the Time Keeper. Accessibility features include new control icon sets, customizable camera behavior, and various input options, making the game more approachable for players with diverse preferences and needs.

While this update signifies the end of new content forDead Cells, it may spark dissatisfaction among some fans. It is also worth noting that the announcement of Update 35 as the final update has been met with backlash, includingcriticism from the former lead designer ofDead Cells.
