The following article contains major spoilers for Demon Slayer.

The first movie in theDemon Slayer: Infinity Castletrilogy is already screening in Japan. While it will take a few weeks before international fans are able to watch it, Japanese fans are already sharing extensive details aboutDemon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba—Infinity Castle Arc Part 1: Akaza’s Return, whichis already a hit.

First and foremost,Demon Slayerfans need to prepare themselves for an emotional rollercoaster during the movie, since most who have already watched it claimed they weren’t expecting to cry so much.

Which Chapters Does The First Movie Cover?

According to reports from Japanese fans, thefirst movie ends aroundChapter 157, closing Akaza’s arc and finally bringing some closure to Tanjiro Kamado regarding Rengoku’s death in the Mugen Train Arc. Akaza’s backstory is revealed in the film, with many new scenes and amazing animation quality.

The major battles in this movie involve Shinobu Kocho, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Tanjiro Kamado, and Giyu Tomioka. Shinobu and Zenitsu will fight different demons each, while Tanjiro and Giyu will join forces against Akaza. The film apparently vastly expands Akaza’s story and battle, which take up most of the nearly three-hour runtime covering this chapter. Shinobu and Zenitsu appear in the first minutes, and then Akaza, Tanjiro, and Giyu take the spotlight for most of the movie.

Shinobu Kocho Dies In The Infinity Castle

Although Shinobu only appears at the beginning, the movie already starts by bringing fans to tears with her emotional death andflashbacks related to her story. According to reports, there is not much new content in her fight against Doma apart from a few brief scenes.

I once believed that the road of happiness continued forever and ever into the distance. When it was destroyed, I realized for the first time that happiness lies atop a thin sheet of glass.

— Shinobu Kocho

However, the movie sets up an important battle for the next one, as Kanao arrived soon enough to see Shinobu being absorbed by Doma, and the movie shows Shibobu injectiong poison on Doma. Additionally, Kokushibo appears by the end of the movie, teasing his upcoming battle too. If this is the route they follow, Tanjiro will not make many appearances in the next movie, except perhaps by the end of the film.

Death

Chapter 162

Since Doma is still alive, the next movie will feature his fight against Kanao and Inosuke. Itwill feature his background story and his relation to Inosuke’s mother, and his inevitable death. The second film will likely highlight both Doma’s and Kokushibo’s defeats if we consider that the trilogy will also cover the Sundown Countdown arc, as many executives have teased.

Nonetheless, fans are a bit worried about how much content is still left to be adapted into two movies. Given that, there’s a good chance the next films will be even longer than this one. It would make sense for the production to test the waters with this movie and check if the audience would be willing to watch even longer films. Many Japanese fans have claimed that they didn’t feel time passing, even though the movie was long.

When Will The Second Demon Slayer Movie Be Released?

The production team has yet to share a release window for the second movie, but as soon as the first film was released in Japan, rumors about the next movie being scheduled for 2027 surfaced once again. These rumors seem to come from different sources, so they might be right, but it is still best to wait for the official announcement.

In any case, if the rumors are right, the production team is aiming for a 2027 release for the second movie and a 2029 release for the final one. This approach makes sense, since it would give them plenty of time to ensure that the rest of the trilogyfeatures top-notch quality and lives up to the hypethat the first movie is helping to build.

The first movie will be released globally starting in August, beginning in Asian countries. In the US, Canada, and the UK, the movie is set to be released on June 21, 2025.

Demon Slayeris available to watch on Crunchyroll, subbed and dubbed in many languages.
