The following contains spoilers from the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga and anime.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaibais an emotionally-charged story of revenge, redemption, and love. At its heart is the conflict between good and evil that has persisted for over a millennium, ever since Muzan became a demon in the Heian Era.

Demon Slayer

Once Kibutsuji realized the unfathomable scope of powers he could potentially gain, provided he conquers the sun, he made it his life lesson to overcome his only weakness. However, despite his best efforts, immortality still eluded him. By the time the final battle between Muzan andthe Demon Slayer Corpsended, the former bitterly accepted his death, but in his last moment, he made a last-ditch effort to fulfill his sinister dream. That decision led to the birth of someone far more powerful than the Demon King himself.

The Last Demon to Have Ever Lived

In the Sunrise Countdown arc, the Demon Slayer Corps finally managed to corner Muzan Kibutsuji afterkilling all the Upper Moons. The Demon King was left defenseless and forced to fight alone. With his back against the wall, Kibutsuji pushed himself to his limits, transforming into a grotesque monster capable of fighting top swordsmen alone.

Tanjiro Kamado… You will conquer the sunlight and become the strongest demon- the king of demons! That is because you are the elder brother of Nezuko Kamado and thus share her blood. You will not die. I believe that. Make my dream come true… Tanjiro. In my place… you must destroy… the Demon Slayer Corps! ~ Muzan Kibutsuji

The members of the Demon Slayer Corpsput their lives on the line to bring down Muzan. Their efforts eventually bore fruit as Kibutsuji could not keep up with the relentless attacks from several adversaries, many of whom were marked and using supernatural talismans.

As Muzan became conscious of his approaching death,he recalled Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s wordsthat all living beings die without exception and only feelings are eternal. The Demon King realized that his arch-enemy had been right all along. He took Kagaya’s words as inspiration and injected his powers and feelings into Tanjiro, who was on the verge of death just next to him.

Kibutsuji strongly believed that Demon Tanjiro would be able to conquer the sun just like his sister, andbecause he uses Yoriichi’s breathing style, he will become the strongest being to have ever existed. He was at least right about a few things since Tanjiro somehow recovered from his grave injuries. However, he was no longer human.

Kamado transformed into a demon after receiving Muzan’s powers and blood. Just as Kibutsuji had thought, he was not affected by the sun and had powers that most demons can’t even dream of. The King of Demons, Tanjiro Kamado, had no weakness, and as a perfect being, he had the potential to rule the world. But what eventually happened to him?

The King of Demons Never Sat On His Throne

Why Did Demon Tanjiro Fail to Fulfill Muzan’s Sinister Dreams?

DemonTanjiro was immensely powerful, but soon after his transformation, he was not truly in control of his abilities. It could even be argued that he did not fully understand the danger he posed. The King of Demons could have potentially lived forever and fulfilled Muzan’s sinister dreams had he not been stopped.

But the members of the Demon Slayer Corps were already too tired after a long battle and were in no state to fight someone evenmore powerful than the Demon King. So how did they manage to stop him? The Sunrise Countdown arc will eventually reveal the nail-biting moments when King of Demon Kamado Tanjiro challenged his comrades and how the conflict unfolded.

The emotionally-charged moments will be one of the most memorable of the series and leave a lasting impression on the viewers. It will not only give fans a satisfactory resolution but also highlight the sacrifices and the unbreakable bonds that tie the Demon Slayer Corps together.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy’s first installment is scheduled to be released in the United States onSeptember 12, 2025.
