Summary
Dexter: Resurrectionhas been entertaining fans both new and old since it kicked off this summer, and after four episodes, audiences are certainly hooked on the latest chapter of Dexter Morgan’s life. The series has done a fantastic job of innovating the franchise, introducing fresh characters and unique ideas that have kept people entertained.
However,Dexter: Resurrectionhas also felt like a throwback to the original at the same time, especially given the numerous original characters who have returned. However, there is one significant person whoDexterfans are hoping to see make an appearance before the season comes to an end.
Dexter: Resurrection Needs To Bring Back Debra Morgan
The one big return thatDexterfans arehoping to see take place is Debra Morgan, who was one of the lead characters throughout the entirety of the original series. As Dexter’s sister and a member of the Miami Metro, she was heavily involved in all aspects of the show. From trying to track down the biggest serial killers possible to bringing out a different side of her brother, she added a lot to the show. That’s something that fans would like to see brought into this spinoff as well, given that she had such a key role. It’s hard to imagine the entire show without her involvement, and whileDexter: Resurrection’sfirst four episodes have been a lot of fun to witness, Debra’s inclusion would’ve enhanced things even further. She was a character who brought a lot of heart and emotion to the series, wearing everything on her sleeve, and injecting that intoDexter: Resurrectionwould have strengthened the show even more, and there are still plenty of episodes left for that to happen.
Jennifer Carpenter Has Played Down A Possible Return
Dexter Fans Should Lower Their Expectations Regarding Debra Morgan
Dexter: Resurrectionhas featured many familiar facesfor fans who enjoyed the original season, with Angel Batista and Harry Morgan returning to the franchise in supporting roles. Meanwhile, there have been a whole host of one-off appearances with the likes of James Doakes, The Trinity Killer, and Joey Quinn, but Debra has been conspicuous by her absence. She’s one of the most popular characters in the franchise, often being seen as the heart of the original show, with her foul mouth providing plenty of humor. After Jennifer Carpenter reprised her role inDexter: New Blood, fans thought that she would do the same for this spinoff. However, she previously played down the idea of her returningwhen speaking toPEOPLE.
“I’m pretty focused where I am, and I feel like I’ve completed that box. I’m proud of it. I hope that they’re having a wonderful time, and I’m so happy for the fans to have more to chew on.”
Of course, any interview such as this has to be taken with a pinch of salt, as carpenter would be keeping things quiet if she were going to make a surprise return to the franchise. The signs might be pointing toDebra not being part ofDexter: Resurrection, but that would be a shame, as there does seem to be a missing piece within the show that Debra’s presence would fill, given the importance of her role in the franchise.
Debra Morgan Would Add A Lot To Dexter: Resurrection
Her Presence Could Help Either Dexter Or Harrison
Given that Debra died at the end of the original series, there are only a few limited ways that she could be brought back toDexter: Resurrection. However, the franchise has often had characters appear when they’re dead as a hallucination, which is something that Debra did inDexter: New Blood.Dexter often has his father, Harry, as his inner voice, who appears alongside him, but throwing Debra into that role again, even if it was just for one episode, would prove to be popular. She has different opinions from her father, and thedynamic between Debra and Dexterwasn’t the same, which would make it interesting to see play out. She would be able to try and guide Dexter away from being too aggressive, as she has previously attempted.
Alternatively,Debra could end up appearing as a hallucination for Harrison Morgan, which would be a fresh story. Harrison is dealing with a lot of inner turmoil in this season due to his actions in thefirst episode ofDexter: Resurrection. It’s evident he doesn’t want to go down the same path as his father in terms of being a serial killer, but those skills are something that are within him, as he has proven. The anger and aggression live within him, and while Dexter might push him toward that, having Debra appear would work to guide him away. She tried and failed to stop her brother’s dark urges, but she might be able to succeed when it comes to her nephew. It would allow Debra to have an impact on the show from beyond the grave while providingDexter: Resurrectionwith another great legacy cameo that fans are sure to love.
