Summary
The elven racein theDragon Ageseries has an incredibly significant history regarding the lore of Thedas. The series' latest game —Dragon Age: The Veilguard— delves into the influence of the elven gods on the game’s world. Previous titles have alluded to this before, but the recent game goes into more detail.
Several elven companions from across the four main games can be romanced by the player character, and among them, these six are the absolute best. Whether they have an in-depth backstory or are just fun to have around, these elves deserve some love fromDragon Agefans.
Sera is one of the more interesting elvesfrom theDragon Ageseries, as she is averse to all things related to her race. She’s not a fan of discussing elven history or general “elfiness,” as she calls it. It’s quite a refreshing take on an elven character. She wants to be seen as the person she is rather than her race, which is something many people can relate to.
Sera doesn’t make it higher on this list because she can be a frustrating character at times. She is quite immature in her ways, especially when it comes to her wanting the player to agree with her at all times. Not doing so will lead to a loss of approval. However, once the player makes it past her childish and somewhat irritating exterior, Sera’s loyalty and good nature become more apparent. She might love to play pranks and be inappropriate, but she cares about the suffering of everyday people, and she does everything she can to make a positive difference.
Merrill is a sweet and kindDalish elf, who has become a pariah among her clan due to her use of blood magic. She uses the frowned-upon magic style to try and restore an Eluvian, an ancient elven magical mirror. There are some tough choices to be made with Merrill’s storyline, especially for those wanting to romance her. She is determined to restore the Eluvian to its former glory, but is willing to do anything to succeed, even if it means endangering herself, making herself vulnerable to demons, and becoming an outcast.
Merrill is another character who can be almost impossible to romance if the player doesn’t agree with her or support her in her decisions, which can be irritating. That being said, she is a genuinely caring elven companion, whose naivety and inexperience with the world outside of her clan make her all the more charming.
Davrin is one of the newest elven romance options in theDragon Ageseries. He is a monster hunter and Grey Warden who has a baby griffon called Assan as a companion. Romancing him leads to the player becoming another parental figure of sorts to Assan, which is one of the best parts ofDavrin’s storyline.
Davrin is a handsome and charming choice when it comes to romance inThe Veilguard. He initially seems stern and unwavering, but once players get to know him, he lets down his guard. He also becomes a more flexible parent to baby Assan when the player encourages him to not be too strict. Davrin might seem like the stereotypical handsome warrior romance choice — and he kind of is. But the inclusion of Assan adds an extra layer of depth to his character while also giving the player a cute animal companion to adopt.
3Fenris (Dragon Age 2)
His Trauma Hides A Good Heart
Brooding elf Fenris is a former slave on the run from his Tevinter captors inDragon Age 2. He can be tricky to romance, particularly if the player tends to side with the mages in the game or if they are playing as a mage. Fenris was tortured at the hands of magisters in Tevinter, which has led to a hatred and distrust of all mages. However, slowly befriending him while supporting mages will get him to realize that it isn’t fair to judge all mages by the magister’s actions.
Fenris is a romance option who seems hard and bitter from his experiences when the player first meets him. Things change when they get to know him, as it becomes clear that his anger stems from his trauma. He is a good person underneath the rage and hatred, making for an in-depth and well-written romance.
From the very firstDragon Agegame,Dragon Age: Origins, Zevran is an assassin with the Antivan Crows who has been hired to take out the player character. When he fails, the player can choose to kill him or have him join the party. Letting him join is a must, as not only is he a useful character to have in terms of combat, but he also has a great romantic storyline.
Zevran is incredibly flirtatious and can be romanced almost immediately after he joins the team. He is quite easy to get approval with, as he is fond of a good sense of humor and playful banter. However, the romance deepens when the relationship between him and the player continues to grow. It’s clear that Zevran wasn’t expecting to catch proper feelings for the Warden, leading to some fun and wholesome moments. Zevran might not be the hardest character to initiate a romance with, but the genuine affection that he develops and his shock at his own feelings make him a noteworthy choice for anelven companionromance.
1Solas (Dragon Age Inquisition)
Long-Lasting Story Implications
Solas broke the hearts of many players who opted to romance him as a female elven Inquisitor inDragon Age: Inquisition.Without going too deep into spoiler territory,Solas is an important characterin the narrative ofInquisitionandThe Veilguard. If the player romanced him inInquisition, it adds an extra layer of depth to the narrative.
Solas is surprisingly charming and sweet as a romance option, which contrasts with the serious attitude that he normally has. The romance does not have a happy ending though, as Solas will leave even if the player has committed to a romantic relationship with him. Some of these loose ends are tied up inThe Veilguard, so long as players state that they romanced Solas when recreating their Inquisitor.
Due to how this romance impacts the narrative ofInquisitionandThe Veilguard, the Solas romance takes the top spot as the best elven romance from theDragon Ageseries.
