Summary

Dragon Age: The Veilguardwill be bringing back another familiar face from the RPG franchise this October, as Morrigan appears ready to return and face the dark threat facing Tevinter. Although some other recurring characters like Solas, Varric, and Harding have been teased forDragon Age: The Veilguardin the past, the Witch of the Wilds' inclusion has only recently been confirmed by new footage released on August 15.

Morrigan has been one of the keystones holding the continuously branchingstorylines ofDragon Agetogether since its earliest days. A companion in the first game,Dragon Age: Origins, back in 2009, she could potentially be romanced by the player character and possibly even have a child containing the soul of an Old God with them, who can become a major character later on. Although absent fromDragon Age 2, she returned in the most recently released mainline game in the series, 2014’sDragon Age: Inquisition, as the arcane advisor to the empress of Orlais and can potentially take the form of a dragon to battle against the game’s antagonist, Corypheus.

Morrigan’s disappearance during the course ofInquisitionleft some questions about her future, but a new trailer revealingDragon Age: The Veilguard’s October 31 release dateconfirms that she will be making her third mainline game appearance in the series. Appearing for just a few seconds about two-thirds of the way through the roughly three-minute trailer, Morrigan appears in the form of a crow, swooping down towards a staircase before resuming her human form. Descending the staircase, she delivers an ominous message to an unknown character off-screen, remarking, “These are the times in which legends are born or slain.” Immediately following this, there are roughly two seconds showing Morrigan casting what appears to be some form of combat magic.

Morrigan Will Return in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Despite appearing in what could be a battle scene during the trailer, Morrigan will not be among theseven playable companions inDragon Age: The Veilguard. Departing from its normal party size of four, the next game in the series will only allow two companions to accompany the player character at a time, and the seven-companion roster is the smallest for any game in the series so far. Although several of the companions belong to factions that will be familiar toDragon Agefans, only one, former Inquisition scout Harding, has appeared before in aDragon Agegame.

As for Morrigan, it’s not yet clear exactly what her role will be in the coming adventure. However, there is plenty of potential for some tumultuous interactions with at least one other returning character, asMorrigan and Solas have a strange relationship, with both of them tied up in the realm’s pantheon.
