Summary
BioWare releases Patch 1 forDragon Age: The Veilguard, addressing a large amount of bugs, while also adding in a special Mass Effect surprise for players. It’s been a long and sometimes winding road for fans, withDragon Age: The Veilguardbeing in development for a long while, seeing multiple reworks, as well as a controversial name change as well.
Regardless of those development troubles,Dragon Age: The Veilguardlaunched to positive receptionfrom players and critics alike. The reception was a welcome change of pace for BioWare, which saw launch issues plague its previous games likeAnthemandMass Effect Andromeda. However, the launch version ofThe Veilguardwasn’t perfect and BioWare continues to tweak and hone the experience through new post-launch updates.
Essentially, the first update forDragon Age: The Veilgaurdaddresses a list of bugs and other issues impacting the experience. Some of the changes are on the more subtle side, such as lip syncing now working correctly in some ambient scenes or adding collision to assets that were missing it. The patch also fixes some higher priority issues as well, eliminating a nasty bug that caused Companion Skill points to reset, crash fixes, and balancing for some fights that weren’t hitting as intended. BioWare also adjusted certain achievements associated withFactions inDragon Age: The Veilguard, so they’re now properly gained upon reaching max strength instead of the cap.
However, the big element of this patch is theMass Effectcollaboration forDragon Ageplayers. Revealed as part of the annual N7 Day,Dragon Ageplayers can claim two outfits inspired by theMass Effectfranchiseonce the patch has been downloaded. Traveling to the Lighthouse, there will be a chest near the Caretaker’s Workshop with a letter from Lace Harding. Better yet, the armor is considered a cosmetic item, which means players can change the appearance of their armor to this N7 Armor Set, while keeping the stats and bonuses of the worn armor.
Despite the recent review bombing issues on sites like Metacritic,Dragon Age: The Veilguardcontinues to improve its player numbers, as the first weekend in November saw its concurrent users on Steam rise by 27% compared to launch. With this latest patch and the tease of freeMass Effect-inspired content, BioWare is hoping to attract even more players to the latestDragon Agegame.
