Summary

Dragon Age: The Veilguardencourages players to experiment with its combat, as players can freely refund their skill points on the skill page to personalize their build as many times as they wish. While the game does give players this freedom, they are stillonly able to have one specializationactivated at a time. Introduced in the latest game in theDragon Agefranchise, the Spellblade focuses heavily on the newest weapon style for mages; the Orb and Mageknife.

Players who want to be up close and personal with their enemies are likely to also want to focus on using specific weaponry found within the orbs and knives to give them the greatest chance of dealing damage, while also making the most of the perks found within this area of the skill web.

Heart of Fire Elemental Orb in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

10Heart Of Fire

Bring Chaos With Fire Up-close

Those that enjoy bringing chaos to the battlefield should look no further than the Heart of Fire Elemental Orb. Players that favor fire damage in Veilguard can cause enemies to burn when using fire abilities if this orb is equipped. However, the player will also cause themselves to burn, which can be quite a double-edged mageknife. Thankfully, Heart of Fire has this covered also, as the orb gifts the player with 30% resistance to any sort of flames.

Players will only get their hands on this Elemental Orb after they have defeated the Fangscorcher Dragon during the “Slaying the Fangscorcher” quest with Taash. While this quest is something that the players won’t receive until near the endgame ofDragon Age: The Veilguard, it is well worth it.

The Point Mageknife in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

9The Point

A Knife That Heals Its User

One of the disadvantages of using the Spellblade fighting style and abilities is the risk a player takes by being up-close and personal as a Mage. Thankfully, The Point is a great choice for any player that worries about taking damage. When attacking an enemy with a Charged attack that is suffering from stacks of Necrosis or Bleeding, the player removes those stacks to heal themselves.

While this mageknife does require the player to do some building around it, such as using abilities that apply necrosis or bleeding, it’s a perfect choice for those wishing to experiment. The Unique Spellblade can be found inside a chest while exploring Treviso. If players find themselves near the Street of Coin Financials in Treviso, then the player is sure to find The Point also.

8Fadelight

Heals Those That Make The Most Of Defending

Although the abilities within the Spellblade Specialization focus on electric elemental damage, it still has a heavy focus on encouraging the player to focus on the use of the orb and mageknife. Orbs like Fadelight are a great choice for those that are still getting used to fighting with the orb due to it not only improving the player’s healing, but also for how it increases the player’s damage when they have no potions, or even heals them during a perfect defense.

While The Fadelight Orb can be purchased from Vorgoth, the Mourn Watcher Vendor, if players wish to unlock the higher rarity buffs of this weapon, they will need to explore places like the Grand Necropolis to hopefully find the weapon again at random within one of the chests.

Coral Tip in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

7Coral Tip

Arcane Bombs Freeze Foes

One of the main features of choosingthe Spellblade specializationis how it increases the number of Arcane Bombs a player can put on an enemy. However, players can take this a step further by equipping knives such as the Unique Coral Tip, which creates even more of an effect once exploding these Arcane Bombs.

When players set up an Arcane Bomb and then decide to trigger it, the enemy that was hit by the Arcane Bomb is also Frozen, allowing the player to continue to combo their attacks against them. Although a Unique mageknife, the Coral Tip can only be unlocked by a Mage through progressing Taash’s storyline inDragon Age: The Veilguard, where it is found in a regular chest as a reward.

6Veilsong

Keeping Enemies On The Ground

As mentioned, with the Spellblade focusing on melee-based combat, a player is likely to find themselves constantly close to enemy attacks and danger. Players will commonly build their specialization around staggering enemies they fight to rapidly take down the various foes they face. Orbs like Veilsong, which can be found in the Elven Ruins during the In Entropy’s Grasp quest, make the most of this Stagger bar.

Besides having incredible stagger overall, the orb also does an extra percentage of damage depending on how much stagger the enemy currently has on them. Not to mention that then using a Takedown on a staggered enemy, if the orb is legendary, will heal the player.

Twist of the Veil in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

5Twist Of The Veil

A Mageknife That Cuts Through Defenses

Those deciding on a class as well as a specialization may be surprised to hear that Mages deal some of the most damage in the game, and this can be taken a step further when using a mageknife like Twist of the Veil. Every rarity buff for Twist of the Veil increases its damage in some way, making it a perfect choice for a Spellblade that has catered their entire build to making the most of attack combos and harming foes.

Doing increased damage when breaking armor or destroying a barrier will ensure that players have a fair chance against dragons or other deadly bosses. Players hoping to equip Twist of the Veil can either purchase the knife fromthe Veil Jumper Vendoror find it randomly in chests while exploring.

Stormcharger in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

4Stormcharger

Makes The Most Of The Spellblade’s Electric Abilities

The ultimate and ability available to the player as a Spellblade both do electric damage. Players that wish to lean more into this while playing as a Spellblade should focus more on electric elemental orbs, like the unique option of the Stormcharger. Although a unique weapon, the Stormcharger can be found quite quickly in the Arlathan Forest, as it’s found within a chest of the Tainted Woods after destroying all the blight in that area.

While the orb may cause the player to cast Shocked on themselves when using electric abilities, like the ones within the Spellblade specialization, players can quickly dispel this effect on themselves, causing a large amount of damage against surrounding enemies once the player is hit.

Split-Hilt Dirk in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

3Split-Hilt Dirk

A Knife Made For Hitting Hard

Continuing on being melee-focused, the Split-Hilt Dirk is a mageknife players will likelykeep equipped for the entirety of their playthroughonce they have found it and achieved legendary rarity with it, too. This simple looking weapon is perfect for hitting enemies due to it increasing the Heavy damage done by the player.

When using something like the mageknife, it’s important for the player to use a mix of Light and Heavy attacks, though a boost to the Heavy Final damage is sure to make an enemy fall quicker. While also being found randomly like many other weapons in the game, players are sure to find the Split-Hilt Dirk while exploring Urthemiel Venue in Dock Town.

Thunderclap in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

2Thunderclap

Removes Barriers And Leeches Health

Thunderclap is another Mage weapon that players can quickly get their hands on. It can be found early into the player’s exploration in Dock Town when looking in The Warrens. Although easy to obtain, this doesn’t mean that it should be written off as a choice for Spellblades, as many players may find themselves making the most of this orb for the entire game. Barriers require ranged attacks to destroy them quickly. When focusing on the Spellblade specialization, a player may forget that they can still do ranged attacks with the orb.

The orb can quickly destroy these barriers, while also leeching health from the enemies they destroy the barriers from. This creates a brilliant balance between melee combat, the Spellblade is loved for, while also encouraging the player to use this magical beam to gain back the health from being too close.

Timeworn Mageknife in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

1Timeworn Mageknife

The Perfect Knife For A Melee-Based Spellblade

Players are sure to find this weapon everywhere, as it can be found randomly in an assortment of locations inDragon Age: The Veilguardor purchased from the Weapon’s Dealer in Treviso. It’s one of the most vital weapons for any Spellblade Mage due to the amount of passives it gives to Arcane Bombs, a prime feature of the Spellblade.

Not only does the Timeworn Mageknife increase the damage of the Arcane Bomb, but it alsohelps the player staggerother enemies surrounding the person it was triggered on, but also a variety of other features just from triggering a bomb, which makes it by far the best weapon for a Spellblade.
