BioWare has revealed very little aboutDragon Age: The Veilguard’s companions, but there is enough information inDragon Agehistory and lore to determine what their roles will likely be in the game. Judging by each companion’s revealed faction and aspirations, players will likely be given a wide range of choices throughoutDragon Age: The Veilguard’s narrative that could directly impact their relationships with said companions. At the very least, such a diverse cast of companion characters is bound to add plenty of side stories to the overarching narrative for a layered and substantial experience.
Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Lace Harding Returns in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Dragon Age: Inquisitionfans should recognize at least one ofDragon Age: The Veilguard’s companions,Lace Harding, as she returns in the nextDragon Agewith the same strength and positivity she had before. This daring dwarf rogue hails from the Fereldan Hinterlands and became a member of the Inquisition after volunteering as a guide for new Inquisition forces and her skill proved her worthy of becoming a member of the faction.
Harding wasn’t one ofDragon Age: Inquisition’s official base-game romances, but if players flirt with her enough throughout its story, they can develop an actual romantic relationship with her in the game’s Trespasser DLC as long as they haven’t romanced any other characters up to that point. It’s very likely thatDragon Age: The Veilguardcould make up for Harding being left out of the official romance lineup this time around. However, even if she isn’t one ofDragon Age: The Veilguard’s romanceoptions, at least her positive outlook, bravery, and skill will be beneficial to players.
Davrin Is a Grey Warden and Famed Monster Hunter
Filling the role of theGrey Wardenin the player’s party inDragon Age: The Veilguardis Davrin, an elf warrior whose bold feats have earned him quite the reputation as a monster hunter in Thedas. Not much is currently known about Davrin, as he was created specifically forDragon Age: The Veilguard, unlike several of the game’s companions who have either appeared or have been mentioned in otherDragon Agestories. That being said, he has been confirmed to have a griffon companion named Assan who will likely assist him in battle.
Bellara Lutare Is a Veil Jumper With a Unique Gauntlet
Bellara Lutare is another original character inDragon Age: The Veilguard, though her faction, theVeil Jumpers, connects her to otherDragon Agestories — namely, theDragon Age: The Missingcomic book run and the “Ruins of Reality” short story by John Dombrow. Bellara is unique in that she is a mage who also wields a special gauntlet that can transform into a hunting bow. As a Veil Jumper, she has an obsession with uncovering the secrets found in ancient elven ruins. She has also been confirmed to be a “romantic,” so she may fill that void for players looking for nothing but pure romance in the nextDragon Agegame.
Neve Gallus Is a Private Investigator for the Shadow Dragons
Neve Gallus is a human mage who has appeared in otherDragon Agestories beforeDragon Age: The Veilguard, including theDragon Age: The Missingcomic books and theDragon Age: Tevinter Nightsanthology of short stories. Apart from her affiliation with the Shadow Dragons faction, what makes Neve unique is her background as a private investigator and her half-prosthetic leg made of dwarven metal. As a member of the Shadow Dragons, Neve will likely make her voice heard most often when there is an injustice being done, as the faction is a resistance group committed to uprooting corruption and slavery.
Taash Is a Dragon Hunter Allied With the Lords of Fortune
Like Bellara and Davrin, Taash is an original companion character created specifically forDragon Age: The Veilguard.Taash is a Qunari warriorwhose affiliation with the Lords of Fortune should, in theory, make her an expert treasure hunter. This fits right in with her official bio, which states that she is also a dragon hunter. As the Lords of Fortune are known for being monster bounty hunters, perhaps she will help players track down some ofDragon Age: The Veilguard’s deadliest monsters. At the very least, she will most likely be one of the best-looking characters in the party, since the Lords of Fortune are recognized by their colorful outfits that sometimes even utilize the treasure their wearers have found.
Emmrich Volkarin Is a Powerful Necromancer With a Skeletal Assistant
Emmrich Volkarinmay very well be the most distinct ofDragon Age: The Veilguard’s companions, simply due to the fact that he is a necromancer of the Mourn Watch order of the Mortalitasi faction with a skeletal assistant named Manfred. While he is not the only character inDragon Age: The Veilguardwho has his own companion, unlike Davrin’s griffon, Emmrich’s assistant Manfred is fully voiced — by none other thanCritical Role’s Matthew Mercer at that. As such, having Emmrich as an ally essentially means having two companions.
Lucanis Dellamorte Is a Master Assassin of the Antivan Crows
Lucanis Dellamorte is a Master Assassin of theAntivan Crowswho made his first appearance in theDragon Age: Tevinter Nightsanthology. Lucanis had a very strict upbringing, but that is likely what led to him becoming such a skilled assassin. As a human rogue who belongs to a group of the most renowned assassins, thieves, and spies, Lucanis will presumably help players catch their enemies by surprise, all while contributing what could be an emotional backstory toDragon Age: The Veilguard’s overarching narrative.
