The world of Appalachia inFallout 76is filled to the brim with food and drink items that are hidden around every corner. Although they are sometimes irradiated and can carry diseases, these consumables can be of great use to players in times of need. Some ofFallout 76’s food and drink items can give players a temporary stat boost, such as a +2 Charisma increase, while others can recover their HP by significant amounts. The majority of these items can be found within the loot that players stumble across inFallout 76, but a handful of them can only be obtained through crafting or planting.
One of the more intriguing and, admittedly, weirder consumables inFallout 76is something known as the deathclaw egg. The ferocious deathclaws, which are probably among theFalloutfranchise’s most iconic enemies, sometimes lay eggs near their nests in concealed, secluded areas. These eggs, when collected, can be used for a variety of different reasons, most notably as an ingredient in other egg-related recipes. Deathclaw eggs are hard to come by inFallout 76, but they are considerably more useful in this game compared to its predecessor,Fallout 4.
Deathclaw Eggs Have Different Uses in Fallout 4 and Fallout 76
Deathclaw Eggs Can Only Be Found in a Few Locations in Fallout 4
InFallout 4, deathclaw eggs are a rare delicacy that can be found in only one of two permanent locations in the base game: a deathclaw nest, north of Fort Hagen filling station, and another nest, northwest of the Mass Pike Interchange elevator. While these eggs can also be uncovered in a few other ways, such as by exploring specific areas inFallout 4’sFar HarborDLCor by coming across a certain random encounter event involving a deathclaw, they are not easy to obtain whatsoever. This, in turn, adds to their relative mystique in the game.
Although deathclaw eggs existed in priorFalloutgames,Fallout 4was the first installment in the series that featured them as consumables.
Fallout 4 Players Can Use Deathclaw Eggs in a Handful of Ways
Fallout 4’s iteration of the deathclaw egg allows players to restore 45 HP and gain 7+ rads when eaten. This version of the egg can also be used to craft two specificFallout 4food items: the deathclaw egg omelette and the Deathclaw Wellingham. Both of these consumables provide the same exact benefit: they recover 115 HP and increase one’s healing rate by 0.03 HP/sec for 2 whole hours. It is worth noting that there is one other food item that can be crafted using a deathclaw egg inFallout 4, but this one requires a bit more work to get.
During a certainside quest inFallout 4called The Devil’s Due, players have to investigate some strange events that are occurring at the Museum of Witchcraft. After listening to some holotapes, they can discover a corpse with a pristine deathclaw egg right next to it. This pristine egg has the same exact effects that a regular deathclaw egg has, but it can be made into a tasty deathclaw omelette, which can restore 115 hit points and give players a 50 max HP boost for 120 minutes. Alternatively, players can choose not to consume the pristine deathclaw egg and instead hand it over to a friendly deathclaw to exchange it for a rare deathclaw gauntlet.
Thanks to Mutations and Perks, Deathclaw Eggs Can Be Utilized in a More Versatile Manner in Fallout 76
Compared toFallout 4, players can make use of deathclaw eggs inFallout 76in a couple of more ways. Although these items satisfy only a small amount of hunger on their own, their effects can be increased significantly when combined with the perks andmutations that a player can unlock inFallout 76. Gamers, for example, with the Carnivore mutation, can receive double the hunger boost from a deathclaw egg than they would otherwise get. Those with the Slow Metabolizer perk, meanwhile, can increase that number by an additional 100%. The benefits of these perks can apply to the deathclaw egg omelettes and Deathclaw Wellingtons that players can make in the game, as well.Fallout 76’s versions of these two food items not only have unique effects, unlike inFallout 4, but they can also be sold by certain robots, making them more accessible than usual.
