The first piece ofPokemonmerchandise made to celebrate the franchise’s 29th anniversary has surfaced online. According to sources, aPokemon TCGplaymat featuring Porygon and its evolutions, Porygon 2 and Porygon-Z, will be released on June 21, 2025, which will be when the next Pokemon Day will take place.
Known as the Virtual Pokemon, Porygon first appeared inPokemon Red and Blue. At the time of its debut, Porygon could only be obtained at the Celadon City Game Corner for 9,999 Coins. In the sequels,Pokemon Gold and Silver, Porygon received an evolution named Porygon2. The evolution process required having Porygon hold the Upgrade item and then trading it. This process was repeated two generations later inPokemon Diamond and Pearlwhen Porygon-Z was revealed. Trading a Porygon2 while it held a Dubious Disc allowed it to evolve into the glitchy Pokemon. InPokemon Scarlet and Violet, thePorygon line can be foundin the Terarium’s Polar Biome and Tera Raid Dens after unlockingThe Indigo DiskDLC.
As thePokemon TCGprepares to releasethe Stellar Crown expansion, The Pokemon Company has already laid out plans for the franchise’s next anniversary.According to PokeGuardian, one of the planned pieces of merchandise for Pokemon Day 2025 is slated to be aPokemon TCGplaymat that features Porygon, Porygon2, and Porygon-Z. This upcomingPokemon TCGmat will have a green background with computer chip art, and be approximately 24 x 13.5 in. when laid flat. The Porygon playmat will also be made with a soft fabric top and a non-slip rubber backing, which will allow it to double as a large mousepad.
Pokemon Day 2025 Porygon Playmat Revealed
The stitched playmat will be made by Ultra Pro, one of The Pokemon Company’s main partners for manufacturing and selling officialPokemon TCGmerchandise, such as premium playmatsfeaturing Abra and its evolutionary line. Given thatPokemon TCGplaymats from Ultra Pro have started around $20.99 to $22.99, it stands to reason the upcoming Porygon mat will be priced similarly.
Although the 2024 Pokemon Day was dominated byPokemon Legends: Z-Aand the return of Mega Evolution, that has not stopped The Pokemon Company from planning several merchandise releases. It remains to be seen what elsePokemonwill reveal for the series' 29th anniversary.
