After revealing the truth to the animatronics, which was that Afton was the one responsible for their deaths, they turned on their master, allowing Mike and Abby to escape, but their story will continue inFive Nights at Freddy’s 2.

While production onFive Nights at Freddy’sis yet to start, Blumhouse began promoting the movie at the recent New York Comic Con event by releasing the movie’s first poster. The promotional art revealed the release date of theFNAFmovie sequel, setting its release for June 26, 2025. Additionally, theposter showed off one ofFive Nights at Freddy’sanimatronics, peering out from behind a curtain. However, upon closer inspection, it’s clear this animatronic is not one from the first film.
Who is Toy Freddy?
The animatronic in question is identifiable as Toy Freddy. Toy Freddy is distinct from the other animatronics thanks to his plastic build and illuminated eyes. This makes it clearFNAF 2will introduce a new generation of animatronics to the story. Toy Freddy is introduced in the games as the redesigned and updated counterpart of the original Freddy Fazbear mascot. One notable element ofToy Freddy’s design in the gameis that he will appear normally on the security footage, but upon gaining entrance to the security office he is shown as having black eyes that look hollow, enhancing his jump scare. Despite this, Scott Cawthon once described Toy Freddy in aSteam community postas being “reclusive and private” and as someone who doesn’t enjoy the limelight.
Toy Freddy’s History in FNAF Games
Toy Freddy first appeared as one of themajor antagonists inFive Nights at Freddy’s 2in 2014, which makes it fitting that he will also make his first live-action appearance in the secondFNAFmovie.Five Nights at Freddy’s 2is built on similar gameplay systems to the first game, except players are also given a mascot head to use to deceive the other animatronics. Toy Freddy is introduced along with remodeled versions of Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, but their original animatronics also appear in the game. The secondFNAFgame also switches location to a different Pizzeria, where the animatronics are outfitted with facial recognition technology that can detect criminals, with its purpose being that the animatronics can then protect children from harm. Despite the upgrade, they still wander at night, drawn to any noise that may be a criminal to find or a child to entertain.
Following his appearance inFive Nights at Freddy’s 2, Toy Freddy has had a long history in theFNAFfranchise. The character appeared in cameo roles inFive Nights at Freddy’s 3and 4, before becoming a selectable antagonist inUltimate Custom Night, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted, andFive Nights at Freddy’s AR: Special Delivery.
What Role Will Toy Freddy Have in the new FNAF Movie?
With Toy Freddy confirmed forFive Nights at Freddy’s 2it can be assumed the upcoming horror movie will adapt the story and some of the gameplay advances of the second game. This means Toy Freddy will likely be joined byToy versions of Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy,as well as their original counterparts. The film will likely move to an entirely different Pizzeria as well, considering the one in the first movie collapsed.
Star Josh Hutcherson teased that the upcomingFive Nights at Freddy’smovie would expand the worldof the franchise more. Hopefully, this means the film will incorporate some of the evolutions from the second game, such as the animatronic’s facial recognition technology, and the player’s mascot disguise. If the movie sticks toFNAFlore, it will likely also infuse Toy Freddy with a distinct personality, and he could become an ally to the movie’s protagonists.
Speaking of, the second game also introduced a new player character, Jeremy Fitzgerald, so it’s possible he could be included in the movie as a new addition. Despite William Afton’s apparent demise at the end ofFive Nights at Freddy’s,Matthew Lillard is returning for the sequel, which suggests that the ultimate villain is set to return and is perhaps responsible for the new and improved animatronics. If that’s the case, Mike and Abby may need to call on the help of the original animatronics to stop Afton once again.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2is scheduled for release on July 18, 2025.
