Fortnite and Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is a Match Made in Heaven
Bandai Namco Entertainment will tap Look North World to develop a unique island with interactive content based on the upcomingGundam: Requiem for Vengeance, according to the show’s San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) preview Panel and official media releases. LNW is a video game studio founded by former members of Bungie and Wide Load Games. The studio will useUnreal Engine’sFortniteEditorto create a team deathmatch-style game mode within the island.
Gundam: Requiem for Vengeancewill be an English-language 3D-animated series produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks and SAFEHOUSE. Its story plunges into the tail end of theOne-Year War between the Principality of Zeon and the Earth Federationto claim Earth, with the former getting an advantage due to its state-of-the-art weapon: the ZAKU mobile suit. To Zeon’s surprise, the Federation Forces captured Eastern Europe 11 months after the war errupted. The protagonist, Solari, and her team Red Wolf Squadron are deployed to recapture the area, but they are greeted by an Earth Federation weapon known as a “Gundam,” which seems to outclass their ZAKU.
What to Expect from the Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance’s Fortnite Team Deathmatch Game
If a game collaborates withGundam, there better be a way for players to pilot the franchise’s legendary mechs, and it looks like theFortnitecollaboration will deliver just that. The deathmatch will be a fight between the infantry forces of the Earth Federation and Zeon. However, one lucky player from each team will be able to harness the power of Gundam EX or ZAKU II to fight for their side in the battle.
This game mode could be similar to theStar Wars: Battlefrontgames, wherein players will fight to get the big power-up and turn the tides in favor of their team. The official promo images of Gundam EX and ZAKU II for this collaboration look amazing, and it would be impressive if the devs could deliver the same level of detail and scale inFortnite. There’s also the challenge of translating the epic feel ofGundam’s mech battles in-game. Therefore, Look North World definitely has its work cut out.
This tie-in allows Bandai to enticeFortnite’s massive player base, which has over 500 million registered users, to watch the show when it drops this October. Plus, the connection between this series andFortniteruns deeper than meets the eye, too.Gundam: Requiem for Vengeanceis the first production in the franchise to use Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. This is the same engine thatFortnitecurrently runs on, so a collaboration between these two massively popular brands seems like it was only a matter of time.
