Summary
Shenhe and Ganyu remain missing inGenshin Impact, as a recent chart showcases the number of patches since a character was last featured on the Event Banners. Since its launch,Genshin Impacthas quadrupled its number of playable characters, and though its roster continues to grow, it has made it impossible for the developers to maintain a fair rotation of Event Banner reruns.
While theChronicled Banner inGenshin Impactwas an attempt to address some of these issues, its execution left a lot to be desired. The best example of unfairness when it comes to Event Banners is Wriothesley, a Cryo character from Fontaine who was released in Version 4.1. Since Version 4.1, Wriothesley has only had his debut banner, whereas a character like Neuvillette will be featured for the third time despite releasing during the same patch.
The chart was compiled and shared by RapidFresh, a frequent contributor to theGenshin Impactcommunity. To no one’s surprise, Shenhe and Ganyu remain at the top of the list – with over 500 days since their last banner appearance.Cryo characters inGenshin Impactcontinue to be delayed in favor of other elements, as their future in the meta remains uncertain. That being said, Kokomi and Tartaglia have both suffered from a lack of reruns despite being 5-Star Hydro characters.

In terms of when players can expect to see Shenhe and Ganyu, one can only speculate, as the Event Banners for Version 5.3 are mostly set ahead of time. The next update will introduce both Mavuika andCitlali toGenshin Impact, which effectively fills out half the available spots. With Xianyun rumored as a banner character due to the Lantern Rite, it only leaves one spot for either Shenhe or Ganyu to fill.Genshin Impactfans should prepare for a reality where Shenhe may end up going two years until a rerun, which certainly highlights how inadequate the current banner format has gotten.
Given thatHonkai: Star Railalready features triple banners, this may beGenshin Impact’s most likely future, and arguably the best solution to the current problem. While it remains to be seen how and when HoYoverse will take another stab at addressing theissues with the Event Banners inGenshin Impact, reintroducing the Chronicled Banner would likely be met with controversy. Version 5.2 will launch on July 18, 2025, and is expected to run until July 23, 2025.
