Ghost of Yoteico-director Nate Fox has shared some of the ways that the game will improve upon the open-world formula of its predecessor,Ghost of Tsushima. Players who enjoyedGhost of Tsushimabut found its open world to be tedious or lacking in variety may be pleased to hear that the developers are aware of it, and have taken those lessons with them into their development ofGhost of Yotei.

Ghost of Yoteiis the follow-up to the popular and well-reviewedGhost of Tsushima. As the game is getting closer to its release date, more details have been revealed, including how the game will build upon existing systems fromGhost of Tsushima. For example, thecinema modes fromGhost of Tsushimaare being expanded inGhost of Yotei, with multiple modes designed to pay tribute to some of Japan’s biggest filmmakers.

Now, the developers ofGhost of Yoteihave sat down to talk about the game, and went into some detail about the title’s open world and how they’re working to keep it from becoming tedious. In a conversation withAutomaton, Sucker Punch creative director Nate Fox acknowledged thatGhost of Tsushimahad some issues with the world’s exploration and minigame segments. As a result,Ghost of Yoteiis set to improve upon these segments, with Fox saying that “we won’t be making players go through the same thing all over again” when player curiosity leads them to uncovering secrets. He says the team has “prepared different kinds of outcomes” that “go beyond the player’s expectations.” He adds that part of the fun of open world games is exploration, and the team wants to give players a “diverse experience.” Players can reportedly expect to spend60 hours inGhost of Yoteito complete everything.

Ghost of Yotei’s Open World Adventures

Ghost of Yotei’s Clue Card system may also play a role in this. The Clue Card system helps players to track branching options on their adventures, and the developers stated that part of the goal ofGhost of Yotei’s development is creating anopen-world gamethat lets players drive their own experiences. The game is also introducing new minigames that will be included alongside some returning ones fromGhost of Tsushima.

WhileGhost of Yoteifans won’t know for sure if the game is able to live up to its expectations until release, it’s a good indication that the developers are aware of the complaints and have taken steps to prevent the same issues from happening again.Former PlayStation head Shuhei Yoshidahas already shared his own thoughts on the game, calling it “even better” thanGhost of Tsushima, which is also a good sign.
