God of War Ragnarokis one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful PlayStation games of this generation, so its absence among the initial list of PS5 Pro enhanced games was puzzling. Thankfully, developer Santa Monica Studio announcedPS5 Pro support forGod of War Ragnaroklast month, but didn’t quite elaborate on what players can expect.
Coinciding with thePS5 Pro’s launch, Santa Monica Studio has issued the v.06.00update forGod of War Ragnarokthat details the enhancements for the beefier mid-generation console. The headline addition is abespoke PS5 Pro Enhanced Modethat toggles the Favor Quality visual settings inGod of War Ragnarokwhile targeting 60fps, basically doubling the performance of the base PS5’s 30fps quality mode.
There’s also a High Frame Rate mode which unlocks the game’s framerate up to 120fps when running on VRR-capable displays, andGod of War Ragnarokplayers on PS5 Pro can now opt between PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution and the prior Temporal Anti-Aliasing technique for resolution upscaling. Aside from the PS5 Pro enhancements, this update includes theReduced Puzzle Hints setting fromGod of War Ragnarok’s PC versionas well, which turns down the frequency of puzzle hints provided by the game’s companion characters.
ManyGod of War Ragnarokplayers complained about the relentless puzzle hints, and Santa Monica Studio has thankfully taken the feedback into consideration and provided meaningful resolution. The PS5 Pro enhancements forGod of War Ragnarokalso appear quite solid and very much in line with the console’s performance claims, although some ray tracing features would’ve been welcome to truly flex the game’s remarkable art direction.
