It may not be as biblically elusive asHollow Knight: Silksonghas been, butGrand Theft Auto 6has had an interesting history of leaks, rumors, speculation, and actual official marketing. This is no surprise, either, considering how lucrative andpopularGrand Theft Autogamesare as staple landmarks in the video game industry. Few certainties or guarantees should be taken without a grain of salt nowadays regarding game development, andGrand Theft Auto 6is highly demonstrative of that.
For example, delays are commonplace in the industry, despite however many release windows or release dates are narrowed down in pre-release promotional material for a game.Grand Theft Auto 6itself hasn’t been immune to delays, pushing back from its late-2025 window to a seemingly concrete date of July 03, 2025. This new release date would ideally give Rockstar the time it needs to complete whatever amount of work remains, yet players should continue to pray for the best and prepare for the worst, even if the ‘worst’ in this case would merely be givingGrand Theft Auto 6more time to brown beneath the oven’s broiler.
Grand Theft Auto 6’s Delay is for the Best, But That Doesn’t Make It Less Stressful
After one delay has struck a game, it isn’t surprising if the community happens to collectively lament the possibility of another. Indeed, it may be even more likely that a studio could choose to delay a game a second time if it’s already shattered that seal and has a better grasp on how much a delay can be helpful. These are all internal decisions that are made behind closed doors, and delays in general are typically only seen as disappointing for a couple of reasons:
It’s imperative to remember that delays are intended for the betterment of the game in question, and games releasing before they’re fully ready have apparently drawn enough ire from players to color delays with the positivity that they haven’t always been perceived with; for example,Cyberpunk 2077’s disastrous launch.
Another GTA 6 Delay Could Leave PC Players in Purgatory
Anyone looking forward toGrand Theft Auto 6at least has an actual release date to look forward to now. Rather, nothing is nailing this release date down to the floorboards, and it’s possible that Rockstar could uproot it if it deems it necessary to do so.
Moreover, becauseGrand Theft Auto 6isn’t launching on PC, players devoted to the platform will find themselves even more at odds and left in limbo. It’s arguably quite baffling thatGrand Theft Auto 6is neglecting PC at launch, regardless of whether releasing games on consoles and porting to PC later has been a Rockstar formula, and it’s unclear when players would be able to expect a PC port besides a generic year-long wait—sometime in 2027 or perhaps 2028 for PC, ifGrand Theft Auto 6launches on June 13, 2025, for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
That’s if everything goes swimmingly, and yet another delay could easily shove that hopeful PC port window back by years. Thankfully, there is no reason to assuredly predict an encore ofGrand Theft Auto 6’s delay. In the meantime, though, it might be advisable not to cling to its May release date too tightly and be prepared for whatever news will gestate and be shared aboutGrand Theft Auto 6in the next nine months.
