Grand Theft Auto 6has been one of the most anticipated games in recent memory. Expected to release in May 2026,Grand Theft Auto 6will arrive a whopping 13 years afterGrand Theft Auto 5, the second-highest-selling game of all time with over 215 million copies shipped. Considering the unparalleled popularity of its predecessor,Grand Theft Auto 6is poised to arrive on a wave of hype that will rival not only other video games but other entertainment products as a whole.

One notable elephant in the room that’s still hanging in the air isGrand Theft Auto 6’s price. Video game prices have been steadily increasing throughout this generation, and with the recent proliferation of $80 video games, this new game faces serious questions about whether it will also cost more money. Recent leaks surrounding the game’s eventual release also raise significant questions and could create a massive double-edged sword for the title.

Grand Theft Auto 6’s Latest Leak Brings Further Debate To The Table

Grand Theft Auto 6 May Release In Multiple Versions

Currently, thelatest leaked information aboutGrand Theft Auto 6centers around the game launching in three different editions. Leaker Millie A claimed there will be a Standard Edition, a Deluxe Edition, and a Premium Edition. Millie A also noted the UK prices, stating that the Standard Edition will cost £69.99, the Deluxe Edition will cost £89.99, and the Premium Edition will cost £109.99.

Seemingly, the more expensive editions of the game will also include earlier access toGrand Theft Auto 6’s online multiplayer. While the Standard Edition will seemingly not allow players to access what one might call “Grand Theft Auto 6 Online”, each more expensive version will offer earlier access to the new online component. Previously, Rockstar insider Tez2 reported thatGrand Theft Auto 6 Onlinewould be sold separately at launch.

Previous leaks and rumors suggestedGTA 6would sell for $100 or more.

Grand Theft Auto 6 May Create Some FOMO

On the one hand, havingthe online mode ofGrand Theft Auto 6locked behind the pricier versions of the game would be a bit unfortunate. There would be some element of FOMO (fear of missing out) among players if they cannot access the online portion unless they buy the more expensive version of the game. Not helping matters is the fact thatGrand Theft Auto 6has been subject to extreme speculation regarding how much the game will cost.

With the recent rise of $80 video games combined with the incomparablehype forGrand Theft Auto 6, talk has mounted concerning whether the game may even go beyond that price. At the time of writing, the rumored UK price of £69.99 translates to a US price of $92.72, while the £89.99 and £109.99 translate to $119.21 and $145.70, respectively. A $90 price tag for the game itself is already bold, so expecting players to pay even more than that to access an entire portion of the game is a big ask.

Video game prices have been steadily increasing throughout this generation, and with the recent proliferation of $80 video games, this new game faces serious questions.

Grand Theft Auto 6 May Try To Ease Players Into The Online Component

Price notwithstanding, however, the decision to putearlier access toGrand Theft Auto 6 Onlinein the more expensive editions may actually help the game in the early going. Easing a certain number of players into the game across portions of time could prevent the servers from getting intensely overloaded at launch. The massive anticipation forGrand Theft Auto 6means plenty will choose to play it, and funneling that player count into the online component slowly will mitigate potential server mishaps.

Of course, all of this information regardingGrand Theft Auto 6’s prices and editions should be taken with a grain of salt. Currently, the game is not expected to launch until June 09, 2025, though Millie A also believes the game could slip again to a potential September 2026 window. Thus, it’s not clear whatGrand Theft Auto 6’s release will actually look like, though it is clear that the lingering question of its price will not be going away anytime soon.
