Donkey Kong Bananzamay not be on the level of aMetal Geargame in terms of inventive boss fights, but there are certainly standouts that fans will remember for years. As fun as these combat scenarios are, they can be challenging too.
Donkey Kong Bananzathrows a lot of softballs at players for at least half, if not two-thirds, of the game. That last third is a real curveball, and players will definitely have to keep up with using theirSkill Points to have an edge inDonkey Kong Bananza. Let’s go through the hardest boss battles and rank them accordingly.
7Inflammonite
Goodness Gracious, Great Ball Of Fire!
Inflammonite is the final boss of the Freezer Layer, which can be encountered later or earlier depending on choices made inDonkey Kong Bananza. Inflammonite is a giant flaming rock that needs to be doused with snow to weaken it, and then players have to smash the shell open.
After that is when things get tricky, as Inflammonite will create runaways that players have to chase down with DK’s Zebra Bananza form. This boss fight has a lot of steps in it, and missing any of them can be frustrating if things reset back to square one. Thankfully, players will at least have a good amount of room to dodge Inflammonite’s attacks.
6Muckety-Muck
Pour Some Salt On Me In The Name Of Love
Muckety-Muck is the final boss of the Feast Layer, which is a late-stageSublayer inDonkey Kong Bananza. Muckety-Muck is a giant slug that needs to be weakened with salt, like many other slug-based enemies in the Feast Layer.
As players aim at Muckety-Muck, they will be bombarded with attacks from smaller slugs and other enemies. The area is small to move around in, and there’s so much going on that it can be hard to focus. Muckety-Muck itself won’t do much, which makes losing the fight more insulting if players make a wrong move.
5Sinister Blusterwing
Beware The Bat
Sinister Blusterwing appears in the Tempest Layer, and it has to be faced a few times. After every defeat, it will retreat. On the plus side, players just need to hit both wings with objects to bring them down. When that happens, players can pound on it, which should end the encounter.
It’s an easy formula on paper, but the battle arenas are often hard to move around in, and Sinister Blusterwing is so fast that it can be hard to hit any of its wings while players also have to dodge attacks. Even after getting one of the bestBananza Powers inDonkey Kong Bananza, Elephant Bananza, for the final encounter, it doesn’t get much easier.
4Void Kong (Final)
Relies On Gadgets
Void Kong, like Sinister Blusterwing, has a similar retreat system. Players will first have to fight him in a few different Sublayers before they can move past The Junction about halfway through the game. Then, the final encounter will happen in the Forbidden Layer, and Void Kong will throw everything at DK that he has.
He can fire lasers, launch other enemies, create walls of ice and fire, and everything in between. His encounters areakin to bullet hell shooters, or to name a fellow RPG,Undertale. Hopefully, by the second-to-last Sublayer, players will have mastered dodging.
3Abracajabya
Getting To The Root Of The Problem
Abracajabya has one of the coolest boss designs in the game as it looks like a plant-based Black Mage from theFinal Fantasyseries. The reference to magic is at least in the boss’s name, who appears at the end of the Forest Layer. Abracajabya is a towering beanstalk-like entity that will shoot poison and thorns at players from a distance.
Tentacle-like roots will have to be climbed to get up close and personal, but each root is covered by hard-to-pass defensive walls of thorns and poison. If players aren’t fast enough, Abracajabya will retreat into another flower tower. Speed and fast reflexes are a must for thisKaiju-inspired boss fight.
2King K. Rool
A Truly Fun Reveal of DK’s Greatest Villain
King K. Rool was the original final boss ofDonkey Kong Countryandhas haunted DK in gamesever since. That said, his reveal after defeating Void Kong was a real surprise inDonkey Kong Bananza, which eventually led to one of three final boss fights. The first of which happens in the Planet Core, and players will have to dodge blasts of bullets and gold.
Unlike other boss fights in the game, King K. Rool has a massive health bar, and players won’t do that much damage even in the strongest Bananza form, Kong Bananza. After defeating him, there is a fake sense of reprieve before he revives himself like inDonkey Kong Country. This second form is not that strong, though.
1K. Rool, King Of Rot
Rotten To The Core
Upon defeating King K. Rool, DK and Pauline make it to New Donk City after wishing on the Banandium Root. Unfortunately, the king of lizards wasn’t done yet as he stole the Banandium Root and turned New Donk City into his playground. After a series of difficult trials, players will have to face him one last time as a transformed version of himself: K. Rool, King of Rot.
Like his first form, this powered-up version has a ton of health and even stronger attacks. The hardest part of the boss fight is dodging waves of banana mush. There isgear inDonkey Kong Bananzathat can protect against banana mush, so it’s best to come prepared. It’s a marathon of a boss fight that feels amazing when K. Rool, King of Rot, finally goes down.
