Horizon Zero Dawn Remasteredis not largely a game about choice, but it does have some moments where Aloy can decide on the fate of characters she meets throughout the game. These choices do come with some consequences, and the first one happens fairly early on in the game.

The decision of whether or not to kill Olin isn’t necessarily cut and dry and will mostly depend on how you decide to play Aloy as a character. There are some changes to the story, depending on whether you choose to save the character in question, so here’s everything you need to know.

What Happens When You Kill Olin?

If you decide to kill Olin inHorizon Zero Dawn Remastered, then he won’t accompany you on thefollow-up quest you get to save his family. However, if you choose to spare him, then he will give you some help in rescuing them when the time comes.

So, largely, the choice is really up to you if you want to let him live or not. Itdoesn’t have any major story consequences, so it’ll be up to what you think Aloy would do in that situation — or what you would personally do in the situation. There are some things to keep in mind, though, that could explain why Aloy would save him.

At the end of the day, Olin isblackmailed by the Eclipseand the very intimidating Helis to carry out orders for the Proving Massacre that happens at the beginning of the game. It’s not a choice he makes for himself, and if you spare him, he swears to change his ways so he can live a better life. There’s also his wife and child to consider, and they’re quite happy to hear that he made it out alive when you save them.

On the other hand, he didbetray Ersa and Erend, and he didaid in the destruction of the Nora, which is Aloy’s own tribe. There are arguments both for and against whether he should survive, and there’s no right answer as it’s entirely up to you.

If you want to take astealthy approach, you should leave him behind because he runs in screaming before you’re able to come up with a plan.

Once you’ve spoken to Olin (or not), you need to clear the camp of all Eclipse guards. One of them will have the key— usually the one that’s patrolling near the house — and you need to pick it up and unlock the door. Inside, you’ll find Olin’s wife and child.
