The War Horse inRed Dead Redemptionis one of the four 3-Star breeds that you can get in the game. It was introduced as part of a paid DLC and via certain pre-order criteria in 2011, and then as part of theGame of the Year Edition. Now that the special edition is what you get viaRed Dead Redemption’s release on PC, there’s no need for a separate purchase or a special code.
Toget the War Horse inRed Dead Redemption, all you need to do is start a mission. You don’t have to complete any in-game challenges or spend a huge chunk of money at the store, which is quite a concern in the early game.
To get the War Horse’s Deed inRed Dead Redemption, complete the prologue and start the second mission, “New Friends, Old Problems”. You will meet one of the game’sbest female characters, Bonnie MacFarlane, once you wake up. She will take you on a tour of MacFarlane’s Ranch.
The mount that you get here is the specialGame of the Year EditionWar Horse. It is dark, but has a silver/blonde mane and tail. It also has white socks on its hind feet. If you go beyond its cosmetic appearance and look at its Deed in your Satchel, you’ll find that it’s a3-Star horse that is “stronger and faster than normal.”
Once you complete the “New Friends, Old Problems” mission, the War Horse will be yours, and you can immediately take off to parts unknown. You can also stay around to complete the main and side story quests, one of which is where youunlock the lasso inRed Dead Redemption.
In terms of stats,Red Dead Redemption’s War Horse is one of the best in the game. It’s exceptionally strong, quick, has great stamina, and most of all, is not skittish.Since you get it at absolutely no cost, and right at the start of the game at that, you won’t need to spend your time looking for better mounts.
If you do want to try out other good mounts, there are three more 3-Star horses in the game. They’re very close to or just a bit better than the War Horse, and are better picks than standard 1 and 2-Star options.
Here are the 3-Star steeds that you’re able to find and tame in the wild:
You have two paths if you want to get a new horse inRed Dead Redemption:you may purchase a Deed from a General Store or find and tame a 3-Star in the wild and then purchase its Deed. The ones you find in the wild will generally be 1 or 2-Stars, much like those available in the store.
The 1-Stars are the lowest tier and not worth buying at all. The 2-Stars are better, but they’re again not good enough to go about purchasing or breaking one in. Remember, you may get the War Horse inRed Dead Redemption’s second main story mission, and theKentucky Saddler via Bonnie MacFarlane’s fifth mission, “Wild Horses, Tamed Passions”. This means that you don’t need to worry about any other horses throughout the game. Pick up the American Standardbred and the Hungarian Half-bred when you get time, and you will be all kitted out.
Buy a Deed for a horse the first chance you get, especially for a 3-Star. This will make it permanently available to you, allowing you to respawn it if it dies or switch to it from the others in your stable. The price will depend on your Fame andHonor stats inRed Dead Redemption, so make sure you filter which area to visit.
