Like other games in theDragon Agefranchise,Dragon Age: The Veilguardgives you access to more party members than you may keep with you at any one time. As such, you’ll need to choose who to bring with you during any given quest.
However,Dragon Age: The Veilguarddoesn’t let you swap out your companions whenever you want. Instead, you’ll need to choose your followers carefully when you begin a quest, or look for one of the fast-travel beacons that appear throughout most regions.
How to Change Companion in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Starting a New Quest
Your first chance to choose your party members comeswhen you exit the Lighthouse. Once you select your destination, you can find the “Change Party” option just above the “Start Quest” button, along with the two party members you’ve currently selected. Note thatDragon Age: The Veilguardonly lets you choose two party members at a time.
Something else to keep in mind is that you can’t choose your party members for the first three or four quests ofVeilguard. Even after you meet your third party member, circumstances will decide which two will come with you. Your first chance to actually choose your companions comes when you begin the story quest “Into the Crossroads.”
Beacons
When you’re on a quest or simply exploring a major area, you’ll come across fast-travel spots calledbeacons. If you fall in battle, your party will respawn at the nearest beacon. You can instantly travel across the area when you select them from the map. Beacons are also where you can change your party composition.
This last feature isn’t as obvious as the first two, mostly because you’ll discover beacons before you get the ability to swap your party members. However, if you ever walk up to a beacon (after you start the quest “Into the Crossroads”), you’ll see the text “Gather Your Party” appear. “Gather Your Party” is something ofa running joke in Bioware games, but in this context, pressing the indicated button or key will bring you to the party selection screen.
