The ability to take on hunts solo inMonster Hunter Wildsis more accessible than ever thanks to the game’s support hunter system. This gives you the ability to hire various hunters you’ve progressed the story with as effective backup during hunts, giving you an alternative to randomized players or just your Palico.
Some of the latest support hunters to join the fray inMonster Hunter Wildsare Mina and Fabius, the legendary leader of the Hunter’s Guild himself. Here’s how to bring them along on your hunts.
How Support Hunters Work in Monster Hunter Wilds
Support Hunters, as their name suggests, function as a supportive backup for your hunter when you embark on hunts solo, or at least with fewer than three other players. As you progress through the main story and certain sidequests, more support hunters will become available for you to call upon, and each of them has their own weapon setup.
To make support hunters join your own hunter in battle, you need tosend out an SOS Flareeither at the beginning of a mission or during it. You can do this manually via your ability wheel or set the action to trigger automatically at the start of all missions, ensuring that support hunters always join. To do this, speak to Alma (or Erik if you opt to have him as your Handler) or visit the Quest Counter in the Grand Hub.
Go to the ‘Settings’ option listed at the top (seen above). Next, select ‘Multiplayer Settings’ and choose either ‘Players & Support Hunters’ or ‘Only Support Hunters’ if you’d prefer to stick solely with NPC support. To make things even easier and more self-sufficient, go to ‘Automatic SOS Flare’ and select ‘On’ to always automatically fire an SOS Flare at the start of every mission. This relieves you of having to remember to do it each hunt.
Finally, as of Title Update 2, there is an option to ‘Select Support Hunters’ in the mission departure menu. This allows you to choose specific support hunters for your current mission
How to Unlock Mina in Monster Hunter Wilds
Mina is a Sword & Shield support hunter who automatically becomes available for the game as of the release of Title Update 2. To unlock her for your roster of support hunters, you first need to complete the main mission “A Hunter’s Pride” early on in Chapter 1-4. This gives you the opportunity to recruit Mina from the beginning of the story.
How to Unlock Fabius in Monster Hunter Wilds
Fabius is a familiar face who first makes his appearance at the start of the main story as the leader of the Hunter’s Guild. While he makes brief alliances with your party during certain story mission objectives, the ability to recruit him as an actual support hunter is a newer feature. His preferred weapon of choice is the Lance.
While Mina became permanently available as of Title Update 2’s release, Fabius is currently only slated to be available for the Festival of Accord: Flamefete event, which lasts from July 23rd until August 5th. So make sure you take the opportunity to test him on some hunts while you’re able to.
